I don't usually post about other artists on TBT unless I feel quite strongly about them... and Estrella Morente is one such artist:

Before I write anything, let me preface with this; I don't really like most flamenco singing... a lot of it is way too pitchy and screamy... but Estrella is amazing. At 28, she's taken the flamenco world by storm and has sold an amazing amount of albums, considering the fanbase.

You don't even need to understand the language to feel the incredibly strong emotions her voice projects. She is one of the few flamenco artists to consistently perform sold-out shows in the US, too (most notably in Carnegie Hall), so that has to speak for something...

Yeah! She's one of the few singers I've heard who has that unique ability... What's amazing is that she's so young and still has many musically productive years ahead of her, hopefully. She released her first two albums within months of each other, so she is definitely not going to be resting on her laurels.

Heh, I can't see the ads since I have AdBlock... but anyway, yes, her singing is very soulful; an amazing achievement at just 28. She released her album at 21, a project that was hyped for years because of her relatives... Her father, Enrique Morente, is one of the most important figures in flamenco singing, so big things were expected of her.
