Error 018-0511?

I just won an auction to get Dotty for a friend. I was willing to spend 1,4 million, plus 5 purple and pink roses on her. And then the wifi stopped. I kept getting error 018-0511, which I've gotten once before (ironically when I was getting merengue, hah. That was cancelled as well), and I'm kind of pissed about it.

Anyone know how to stop it? I lost my friend's ultimate dreamie and mine thanks to this, so. The nintendo site doesn't help much, since I've tried to reset my connection, I've tried trying to connect over and over again, and I can't give my 3DS its own IP address because we have a router brand that isnt listed on the nintendo site.

Sigh.

It means the routers aren't compatible. Have you turned your 3DS on and off again?

I've never tried to turn it off and on again, stupidly enough. And it's weird because I'm from Amsterdam and me and my Californian friend can wifi just fine. We wifi almost every day

There are some people I've befriended that I can in no way Wifi with at all. I can't go to their town, they can't go to mine, and we can't both be in any friend's town at the same time. This doesn't change even if I do turn my 3DS off and back on, and same with them. Most other people, however, I can WiFi with perfectly fine.
I've run across 5 people already that I have this problem with, and I do believe the same error number comes up as the one you described. Just want ya to know, it may not always work. For future reference. That's all.

I've never seen this code before.... Sorry I won't be much help.
But I have soooo many connection errors too with the code 018-512.
I don't know what the difference is, but I've missed out on a quite few occasions to get dreamies and to trade because of it...
So I feel your pain.

edit: I gave up on any ways to fix after trying virtually EVERYTHING I could find,
I even screwed up my router trying to create a DMZ and messing with the MAC addresses...
I had to call my internet provider and they had to reset the router because I lost internet on all my devices.
I'm starting to think it's a router brand issue.
Please be careful if you attempt to fix your problem by fiddling around with your router settings...

I've yet to come cross someone who's wi-fi was simply incompatible with mine, thank goodness. Usually when I receive an error, I do the following in order:

• Retry. The obvious one.
• Host closes gate and reopens.
• Go into wi-fi settings. Remove connection point and re-add.
• Restart 3DS.
• Restart router.

It's always fixed itself after the third one there. Have yet to shut it, or the router off.

I was having this problem and I solved it by getting a new Linksys router.I've had a 100% success rate with this router.

I have one person so far that I just can't wifi with, I have had people in my town doing fine for awhile but as soon as she came it shutdown and the same when I tried to go to her town. We don't know why our systems just didn't like each other
