Ppl at mah school have recently been humiliating and "dissing" all emos, they are completely outcast...I won't say I agree with them as I stand neutral in this affair but personally they turn me OFF. BTW I'm not stereotypical but...
What about you?
and if ur comfortable saying so, are u an emo?

That right there is the problem. Why label yourself anything? Why do today's teenagers insist on falling into the various cliques of an artificially created hierarchical social system?

It's pretty stupid, if you ask me.

Don't diss them. Emo people maybe different, but they're people too. They have feelings.
Besides, what makes the world cool is the fact the everyone is different.

Totally agreed... but don't you think that adhering to a set of beliefs that define a [high school] clique will make everyone the same...?

No, the default of not labeling yourself is "non-conformist". You could counter by saying that's a label in of itself, but that's not true. Every non-conformist is different -- every conformist, however, is the same in their adherence to set standards/beliefs.

What "fullofmyself" said also works. ;)

There are labels inside nonconformity though. Such as punk or indie.

Well, if you're not flaunting your choice of lifestyle, then what's the point of being emo? Are you making a statement? Unless you do go out and scream "I'M EMO I CUT MY WRIST!!!!111" (or worse, actually do cut yourself), it's a pretty weak and pointless statement.

I mean, I can understand depressed people... they have problems. But those who ascribe their social conformism to other reasons are either showing off, or falling victim to peer pressure.

Real non-conformism has no labels. Those who adhere to said labels are really conforming, and using the term "non-conformist" to set themselves apart.

Those who are true non-conformists...

a) Don't give a damn as to what others think of them or their behavior
b) Do not try to make a statement with their non-conformism
c) Don't purposely go against the flow, but rather find themselves constantly against it because of their perception of life and social norms
