Kinda random question here, but is there even a point in paying off my basement?

I'm thinking I'll just give all my money to the town fund instead of paying off my mortgage...

If you pay off your final house upgrade, Nook gives you a flag outside your house that you can personalize. It's kinda neat to see, plus it gives a sense of accomplishment, but overall it doesn't "do" much for you to pay it off.
