Definitely playing early morning/late night. Nobody around and everything seems so creepy. The music doesn't help the feeling but I actually really like it. Something quite beautiful about it
I actually visited that infamous Aika Village dream town yesterday...it was really spooky! There's one room that's like, a maze of bookshelves...you can't really see where you're going, because the shelves block it...and there's a dipping bird hidden in one corner (which makes this creepy creaking sound as it moves) and then a theremin in another corner (makes a really unnerving high-pitched sound that changes based on your distance from it), and finally a bunch of eggs on the floor (that crunch when you step on them apparently, I didn't notice this)...so you can't see anything, and every time you move there are all these creepy noises...it was pretty unnerving!
I'd definitely recommend a visit if you've never been. The address is: 2600-0218-7298. Might consider opening up a guide by someone else who has been there though, otherwise you'll miss stuff (like the wetsuit and the "island"). I know there are a ton of posts about this town on TBT but I just figured I'd add my 2 cents here. All hype aside, it's a really well-done town.
I actually scared myself on accident once. I was playing at uh.. 3am, I believe. Everything was dark and most of the villagers were asleep, not to mention the music. Then I went down to the beach to go for a late night swim.. but I totally forgot I had made a gravestone QR and placed it on the secluded island, complete with flowers. It scared me so badly that I put the game down and went to get some water.. then I remembered what was going on and I banged my head on the table repeatedly to punish my stupidity.
I think that it is the combination of the music being slightly off, the night and the way the game is light up is different, the lack of villagers and the general stillness of the game.
We are very much so used to playing when it is fun and cheerful. It is weird.
Yea, Night is preety much polar opposites with day time, at day the villagers are out, at night they are nowhere to be seen. Heck, there is even a reverse song in there. Thats why I go hang with my friend Blathers.
I love the 5 AM music! My only problem with it being night is that nothing but the roost and the museum are open. D:
I've also never played in the summer time (though I'm halfway through April so it won't be long!) so I haven't met the scorpions and tarantulas. Not looking forward to it.
Once or twice in the middle of the day I've had a villager appear from between some trees and scare me because I didn't know they were there.
