Earth Day expectations?

It is no way an expectation, but I would be really charmed if at the end of Earth Day or the day after we get the notification from Tom Nook that Leif loved the island so much he wants to set up a shop. Also, if we had cactus or desert plants that would be cool and I would be super tempted to set up a desert area on my island.

Judging from the Fishing Tourney it may be target-based for 'Earth' related activities (e.g.: rewards for planting a sapling, 5 saplings, 10 saplings).

I want bushes but I have a strong feeling that won't be it. I can't wrap my head around how it would work.

Would that mean new players joining after Earth day would have to wait one year for the next earth day to roll around to unlock bushes/Leifs shop? Or is this event going to happen at a different time for people who miss it. (But why call it Earth Day at that point...?)

Ok, then let's say that Earth day doesn't unlock a new store but still includes bushes... there would be no way to buy enough bushes to last one whole year until he comes around next time. Unless you somehow DIY bush saplings which sounds a tad weird.

...I guess we could get bushes as a separate thing from Earth day? That's the only way I could see it happening. Maybe in the same patch as Earth Day, but not in the actual event.

As for what I expect from specifically Earth day...

DIY stuff. Maybe topiaries. I'd rather it not be another balloon farming fiasco, but the cherry blossoms and bunny day have proven this is a potential event format. We also will not have any active seasonal balloon recipes when the patch rolls around which makes me suspect they will want to fill that gap.​

I have hope because during the direct liefs face popped up during "new features" like seconds before they said the earth day event.. so hoping he'll get to be a permanent npc lol

I think it would be cool if we got points for cutting down trees and could convert our fossils into fossil fuel. Extra trash from fishing would be gucci. Some nice factory-themed furniture, perhaps?

I have nothing new to add but I’m hyped about the possibility of bushes! Fencing is great but I used bushes so much in NL that I’m really missing them in my landscaping. Even if we don’t get them for Earth Day I hope Leif shows up with them soon.

it'd be kind of neat if bushes worked like fencing.
kind of like how if you only put down one piece of egg fence, you get a single giant egg, but if you put down a bunch in a row they turn into a fence. (but in the bush example, the bushes would fuse into a hedge)

I hope we don't have to pull weeds again... My town doesn't have any. If I have to use a bunch of tickets to go to islands and find weeds, I'm going to be a little annoyed.

I've stocked up almost 200 weeds when I cleared my island because I thought I would need them (probably for crafting). Now I may keep them until earth day just in case Leif wants them lol

I'm really hoping for hybrid flower diy recipes, some flower diy are in the game but even with customization we cant do hybrid colors, I really want lief to give cards for hybrid variations of current and past flower furniture.

For the Earth Day event, I guess I could expect planting trees or flowers and weeding.

As for Leif, like most others, I also want bushes or even better: topiaries, hedges, trellis fences and arches. Leif is perfect for our gardenscaping needs.

I'm guessing pulling weeds might be a part of it. Also there might be a challenge to plant a certain number of flowers/trees.

I could see them adding some new special flower varieties for this event as well.

Personally I'm hoping Leif becomes a regular vendor with this update and he shows up in the town square occasionally like Kicks.

I want to think bushes, but I fear we'll get a DIY recipe event. It being plant-based it should be pretty, but I'm not ready to spend all of that time farming balloons again. =/

While I certainly think we'll likely get a DIY recipe-based thing, I highly doubt they'd put everything in balloons again. I think Nintendo knows better than to repeat the same event with different rewards given we already have that in Pocket Camp. I think there'd be a new way to trade for recipes.

So I just went back and watched that portion of the mini Direct where Earth Day was announced to get an idea of what was really said.

I might just be seeing into it too much, but the announcer mentions "it [the later in April update]'ll usher in some newly added features" and right then before he even gets to the part about Earth Day, Leif's face appears. Of course, there is a very small amount of time before he says "including the Earth Day event". So I'm willing to admit this is quite a stretch to read into, as it could just be that the presentation was slightly out of sync with what was being said and/or it means nothing and was just the way that did it.

Either way, my point in pointing this out is having hope that Leif isn't an Earth Day event character like Zipper T. Bunny, but instead is a part of the "newly added features" and then the Earth Day event just happens to feature him in addition to his new in-game role.
