Smash Bros Due to Update, Replays No Longer Play.... WHY? D:

So my brother just showed me that since we updated, and got Mewtwo that our old replays are no longer applicable to play. It only gives options to Delete, or Delete All.
WTF?!?
I had some really good replays on there... Who even thought that was a good idea? Like why would they even do that... Does anyone know why, or if there's somehow a way to fix it?? D:

Smash bros doesn't actually save a video file (unfortunately), but instead a "replay" is basically the save of what position your characters were at that time. With the new update, there was also a balance update which updated the actual characters themselves. Since all the characters have been balanced, they are no longer the same character data saved during your replay. This essentially makes the game unable to play the saves because the game doesn't recognize the old character data, for it has been replaced with new data.

I hope that made some sense lol, I'm kinda rambling...

But I'm crying too cause my WiiU was set to automatic updates OTL....Me and my bro had some pretty awesome saves....I was planning to capture them all today....

Basically what Temari said, but the game does give a warning that replays may become unplayable after updates, so you were given a warning. It'll probably happen again once Lucas comes out.

So in other words there's no way to recover them? I wanted to keep them just in case there was an option to save them or if maybe they'd fix it and let them playable again, but my bro apparently deleted them all as I was making this thread...

It happens a lot.

Usually it happens due to the update balancing characters.

I'm kicking myself because I was going to record my replays with my ipad's camera, but I only managed to get a few recorded before my ipad weirdly stopped charging. So now it's dead until further notice. Anyway, I had to just watch them all one last time and take the update like a champ, lol.
