I could hold her for about a day once she's in boxes! As long as I know she will be picked up, I will hold her.

Yeah it is. That's what I use. The only other option I could let you know about is the 5-day cycling which I used to do. Once a villager is in boxes, TT 5 days forward (you can adopt them out or void them, it doesn't matter.) And TT day by day and talk to the villagers until they let you know that someone is thinking about moving. Talk to that villager over and over until they say something about moving, or if you aren't patient, TT to the next day. The villager that was thinking about moving will ping you. Rarely will a villager move out the day after the ping, but it is something to be cautious of.
