Wait...question. Would it be considered bad form if you yourself dated one of the characters? Because I remember it broke my heart back when I was little when I found out that even though I could send love letters to Tabby, all she would reply back with was "I have no idea what you wrote but it sure was funny! Cheese fondue is delicious!"
But if such might be the case, I'd probably ship myself with Punchy. Normally I'm more or less straight, but he's REALLY cute.
Having to choose between two villagers though, I'd pick Coco and Filbert. I dunno, they were in my town in Wild World, and I always thought they seemed cute together.

I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Personally, its not my cup of tea, but my friend considers Jay her husband, and I've seen people on all sorts of AC-related forums say that different villagers are their soulmates

Ah, I remember having Nan in one of my villages. She was quite nice to me, reflecting back on it, though I wasn't all that attached to her. It WOULD be quite nice if villagers could give realistic responses depending on what you write to them, even giving the opportunity to flirt back and forth with them. Though I guess that would turn the game into more of a dating simulator XD
I dunno what it is about Punchy...I guess I've always kinda been into that coo coo cloudlander, laid back, and food-loving attitude espoused by the Lazy villagers, but Punchy in particular I find really cute. Totally the type of guy I'd snuggle with in a field of flowers. With some extra food of course.
Static & Peanut them 2 always seem to got it going on , I always hear from the other villagers about their gift exchanging and what not.
And then I am pretty Sure Marshal has a thing for Poppy because whenever I am talking to her he is always giving me the eye and circles around me it is creepy..

Static and Fuschia, they were both having a conversation one time and they were in the store together and they were arguing about who was scarier cause one of them apparently scared off some kid, and it gave me an option to choose one of them or "you were together?" And I chose that. They started acting all weird after lol, and I actually have the conversation in photos, here it is:
