"Don't talk to any of my villagers"

I've noticed that this is said a ton when trading. why does it matter? What does other people talking to your villagers DO, exactly?

Villagers will remember being spoken to and will repeat often "do you remember Anybody from That town, it sure was nice getting to know them I hope they visit again" etc, some people don't like that added dialogue.

My town must be glitch, because my villagers never mentioned their older mayors. lol

When someone talks to your villagers, apparently the villagers will remember the person they talked to and their current rumor.
e.g: Me, as Mayor Ingrid from Sandy visited your town and talk to Lolly. At some point when you talk to your Lolly, she'll mention about me: "Hey, recently I talked to Mayor Ingrid from Sandy and I think she's a green thumb"

Something like that. Funny thing is, even I visited your town weeks or even months ago, they still can bring up my name into your conversation and I believe this what makes some people uncomfortable, especially when that person only visited your town for trading purpose only, or maybe scammed you before so you don't want their name popped up again

I've had all kinds of conversations about old mayors & towns, & about visitors. Never bothers me. I think it used to be in CF, when you spoke to villagers, they would be more likely to want to leave. But I don't know if that still happens in NL...

It bothers me like crazy when my villagers mention complete strangers to me. Especially when that stranger happens to have an inappropriate mayor or town name

They might remember you and move to your town if they ever move out

It doesnt bother me people I trade often with bc i actually like them. Like if hailey or heather talked to them it'd cool but one time this girl everette i think her name was (who was super nice) talked to lolly and she would mention her at least once a week lol. I wonder if when she randomly disappeared she went there?

I don't mind it ^-^ but I had someone who was trading with me a while back tell me "Do NOT TALK to any of my other villagers! Just the ONE you are getting!" so I didnt. I only spoke to my future (current villager now) and I so happened to have a villager they wanted. She came to my town and then left (I trust all my traders and either way there was nothing of value) and a few days later a villager told me "hey I talked to (insert name I forgot XD) from (their village). She was such a bell-pincher." I found it funny because her rule was not to talk to other villagers yet she did it anyways xD I honestly don't care but it was funny.

If the person you talk to was in boxes, they may decide to come to your town; however, the person may have already (or is in the process) of selling that villager so they would lose out on the sale.

And for the other reasons stated as well.

I was under the impression that if you spoke to someone's villager often, they would move out of their town and come to yours.

Some people don't like it when a villager tells them if they remember when X came to visit because they want their villagers to be as original as possible. I can see why they say that but they even do that when it comes to cycling towns, which I don't really get because they don't talk to their villagers when they cycle, so why does it matter?

From my experience, I think villagers do that whole "hey I talked to ______ from ______" thing even if the player in question never spoke to them, the minimum requirement may be that the player visited your town. I have a villager or two that says stuff like that about multiple players, when I know for a FACT only one of my friends has ever spoken to anyone in my town...

Well, I like my villagers to tell me about their former towns and to sing their former town's theme. I find it really cute! Also, I wouldn't mind them to talk about anyone who came to my town, as long as the person hadn't an inappropiate town name or character name.

I don't have that rule, although it does annoy me when a villager brings up a person whole stole from me.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the rule is pointless and villagers will talk about old visitors anyway, because I talked to a villager a while back and they brought up someone who has visited my town but never talked to the villager, or at least I didn't see it.

It can just get annoying to some users, because usually the villagers talk about a person they've only met like once until the end of time. Personally, I don't like others talking to my villagers either, not because I don't want them to but because they'll always constantly bring up that person in conversation and say nothing else. Although, the majority of my villagers are from other cycle towns but I honestly don't mind that they talk about their old mayors it's kinda cute. It shows that they've been a long way before coming to my town.

I play AC with a friend of mine who spoke to Zell once.
He says sometimes "I spoke to Reina from Lonetown the other day! You should stay up all night laughing with her!"

I'm so jealous of you then! I dislike when my villagers talk about their previous towns and sing that town song. ugh!
