Yeah my first experience with them was when I just so happened to be next to beefaloes... Waiting for them to sleep so I could shave them xD and then when I tried to hit the hound I hit the beefalo... Causing me to get swarmed by everything.*raises hand* I remember my first time encountering the Hounds. It was night, pitch black and I could hear strange sounds. Next thing I know this hound comes running at me and all I have is my axe and a campfire. So I'm running in circles around my campfire, freaking out until morning. When I finally try to kill it, it kills me in a couple hits.
It was awesome.
I don't have the Reign of Giants DLC, I saw some videos on it and the added mechanics like dying of exposure (getting wet in the rain) for example, would be way too challenging for me. xD I still have only made it to day 32. I need the perfect place to settle, too... Only reason I survived as far as I did before is because I was near beefaloes, and I had 2 improved farms. Also, I had a beebox which produced over 20 honey for me before winter started, and then for some reason there were a ridiculous amount of berry bushes around my house. I started winter with around 21 berries, 20 or so honey, 6 cooked morsels, 15 cooked carrots, 3 corn, a dragonfruit, and an eggplant or 2. It was insane! I also had like 5 monster meat for emergencies. I just got really, really lucky with my world. However, I had so much that a lot of it spoiled and then I had to resort to tracking down koalefants whilst starving - I would have froze to death had I not picked Willow as my character. Being able to just light a tree on fire when you start freezing is pretty handy xP
