Doing Dream Reviews

Can you please do mine? I still need to do a lot and want to know what others think of it. :3

Sorry it took me so long to get back to this! I visited your town this morning. Let me just say that I absolutely LOVE HP towns. That said they are a very popular idea, so you have a lot of competition. Maybe look up the way others have ahdnledthe idea in ACNL for inspiration. I saw that your Hogwarts house isn't quite finished and that the other house hasn't really been started. However, what was already done inside of Hogwarts and around the outdoor areas of your town were phenomenal. I love your paths. The ones with the spiders slayed me. I also think you have a good choice of villagers. Another nice touch was the HP theme as the town tune. The hour did not chime while I was there, but I could hear the echo in the door chimes. I'd know those few notes anywhere. ;)

I would appreciate a review of either of my towns' Dream Addresses. And I will post a review of a Dream Address for a town belonging to a forum member whose post precedes mine.

Here is the first of two reviews I'll submit on this thread:

  • Forum member: nyanicat
  • Town: Hyrulia
  • Dream Address: 4800–2450–8663
  • Mayor: Sally
  • Villagers: 1) Marshal; 2) Ankha; 3) Whitney; 4) Rosie; 5) Stitches;
    6) Frobert; 7) Fang; 8) Phoebe; 9) Beau; 10) Wolfgang

REVIEW:

This is a very good map! I like that Re-Tail Shop is a little southeast of the Train Station. Makes it easy for turnips. But, of course, that's not necessarily a motivating factor for a person who selects a map prior to beginning one's game.

The cast of villagers are wonderful. Those wanting a good share of The Bell Tree Forums' Top Tier Dreamies could feel a little envy, yes, but there are good villagers who are not among that group. I think the Uchi Phoebe has a good demeanor (and I'd welcome her to one of my towns). She is colorful—I love the mix of pinks on her face with a creamy yellow stripe on her head. The Jock Frobert is also quite a vision and, like other good Jocks, is very friendly. And Cranky Wolfgang, who doesn't seem too cranky, is fun.

I notice your town does not have paths. Reason people use them is for some control over not wearing down the grass. In my second town of Progress, most areas are bare; and, for those with paths, they are for along high-traffic areas of the Re-Tail Shop (really for when I host turnips) and The Roost Cafe. By not having paths, I believe, it is a choice made by a player who wants one's town to feel more park-like; and that you chose not to do so because you want a free-flowing feeling with the atmosphere. This is very smart!

I also like arrangements of flowers. For the most part, they are presented according to the type of flowers—with a mix of colors (hybrids especially). It's a good, mixed variety.

SUGGESTIONS:

I think it would be wise to have a third bridge. But, admittedly, I know some of the choices for placement makes it feel tricky. Where your two bridges are currently located are, indeed, spread out equally well. I relate because, while I have three bridges in Progress, new Lazy Villager Erik has his house practically on top of a bridge which, as you cross it south, you run right into the east corner of Erik's house. This is an example of why the "Animal Crossing" powers-that-be need to implement a "Zoning" mechanism for players' town mayor.

I also want to suggest that you plant some more beach trees. The south side needs a few more, yes, but the east side only has two—one coconut and one banana—and, while perhaps you may have used that area to create more hybrids, the lack of some shading on the beach does not seem complete. Naturally, no one would want to overdo that. But the east side is too anemic.

CONCLUSION:

I enjoyed your town. I especially got a kick that you have three of my male Dreamies—Fang, Marshal, and Stitches—and it was a great opportunity for me to spend time with them. It was a kick that your Dream Address date of 02.26.2014 was greeted with torrential rain. Marshal was hanging out for a while and, once he went in, he was fun to hang with.

Here is the second of two reviews I'll submit on this thread:

  • Mayor: Justin (with Aria, Saria)
  • Villagers: 1) Bob; 2) Biskit; 3) Diana; 4) Coco; 5) Bam;
    6) Molly; 7) Friga; 8) Static; 9) Pietro; 10) Bunnie

REVIEW:

I like the map! I like that Re-Tail Shop is immediately west of the Train Station. (Very good for hosting turnips.)

The cast of villagers are very much not a part of the Dreamies lineup. In fact, you have only one: Snooty Diana. And this makes it good to find what are, perhaps, underrated villagers. I took the biggest shine to Normal Molly. She's such a peaceful villager. Neighboring Smug Pietro is comical-looking. He is a sheep with a clownish palette to his entire body. I didn't get to spend too much time with them. But they were worth the trip. Of the Top Tier Dreamies, there are no Uchis and no Jocks. You have the highest-ranked Jock, though not in the Top Tier but in the next level, residing in your town of Viridian: Bam. And who wouldn't want to embrace a blue-colored deer?

I like your path. In fact, I took a copy for myself [Mayor Cameron from Progress]. And I'll see what I may do with it; or maybe not use it. It's simple. It's a brick red background with black grout lines. It's easy to live with. It's smart.

You have a marvelous mix of hybrids. I like that you used hues that match up the color of some of your villagers. For the blue Bam, you have outside his house blue cosmos and blue roses. For the orange Lazy Biskit, you have outside his house some orange hybrids as well. (I didn't note exactly which ones. I'm writing this a couple hours after the Dream ended. And I can recall, with the white to Snooty Diana, who has pink mixed in, that you used some pink hybrids just outside her house as well.) I don't know if you did this deliberately. One time is one thing. Two times is a coincidence. But three times makes me feel like stealing your idea. (I love it!)

I like that path along the east as you cross over north/south to walk along Bunnie's (west) and Pietro's (east) houses. You have red flowers on Bunnie's side. And it struck me as striking. You selected more than one type of bush. The Holly, in particular, looks wonderful. Perhaps that wasn't fully planned. It works!

I also like the placement of the Lighthouse. I have one in my original town of Applewin. My typical thought is to have it built near the edge (as much as permissible according to Isabelle); but you allowed for reasonable distance. It is effective. And it's a nice touch that you have a mix of fruit trees around the Lighthouse. And about its placement? It's on the south side, but central enough to beach area. I think you chose wisely.

SUGGESTIONS:

You may not like the suggestion. But I think the two bridges on the east side of Viridian are too close to each other. I would suggest moving the more southern of the two (where you now cross it to get to Molly's house) further south. I would actually suggest it being positioned in an angled, northwest/southeast direction where one couldn't be placed now because you have the Wind Turbine along that path (west side of it). So, this would require bells for removal and, of course, even more bells for building and re-building. If you were to go through with it, though, it would strengthen the ease of navigating Viridian.

CONCLUSION:

A fun town! I would re-visit again in a Dream Address tour. (I am trying to earn more Phineas Badges.) And I had a positive experience with Dreaming in Viridan. In fact, I got a kick out of Justin's greeting because, well, humor can go a long way in this game.

You guys, I don't know what happened but I just completely ran out of time for TBT. I have to focus on real life for a while, so maybe I will eventually come back and do these reviews but it might not be for a while. My apologies. :(
