Doing a favor for everyone and stabbed in the BACK!

I made the mistake of opening my gates to members this morning so that they could sell turnips at Re-Tail for 599 and ONE of the 11 of them stole my single blue pansy. I'm fairly sure I know who did it, but since I can't be 100% positive I will have to ban everyone that visited my town this morning from coming back.

I'm sorry things turned out this way, but I don't want to have to go through my town putting away any flowers, fruits, ect because there are people out there that steal things that don't belong to them., especially when I'm doing a favor for people in the first place.

(If anyone wants to see who visited me, and beware before you invite them in see my post this morning).

Haha yaaay Nice to meet you Amy, I'm pretty scared to let people into my town also. One way to get rid of people is to just turn off the wifi on your ds, then it crashes and the data isn't saved

That sucks. I want to let people into my town so I can get the trainstation remodeled but I have lots of gold roses (and some blue ones) around and I'm afraid someone would take them.

I would just tell anyone who's going to come to your town to wait for you outside the train station. When they arrive, close the gate, and if they're not waiting for you outside the train station, simply turn off your wifi. If they're there, follow them while they do what they need to do.

Nintendo is a bit behind on all this online play stuff, eh? Guest permissions should have been a top priority.

You can't let multiple just fly in and out. Also, did you clearly state that you didn't allow people to take flowers and fruit from your village?
Let one person in at a time and watch where they go. If they do something wrong, wifi off. You're in control and you can't blame anyone but yourself =( It sucks

I honestly hope in the next AC game they give the option to set some type of rule (lime people can't pick up flowers,run,cut down trees ect.)

And this is why I'm never going to get the modern train station. ): It's just too hard to know who you can and can not trust! Maybe when used 3ds prices go down I'll grab one and visit my main town over and over again. -_-

You can always make a thread and tell people to stay outside the train station, and tell them that if they start heading somewhere else you'll cut the wi-fi. You shouldn't have any problems this way, of course people won't do it for free, you can always put some gifts you're willing to give away or some sets for them to catalogue and that way you will get your modern train station.
Don't forget, if you cut your wireless (with the switch) nothing will save, so just make sure you always follow your visitors.

Yeah, I just deleted someone who stole a couple of flowers from me, such a pain! It was no one from here by the way, everyone I have traded with and encountered from TBT has been very well behaved!

That's horrible! I'm thinking about only letting people I really know into my town. I mean, out of this site. From now on I think I'll start looking at everyone's page now and then to see what they're truly like, or send them PMs and whatnot, just to see if I can trust them. From now on, though, I think I'll take a break from Friend Codes until I get to know the person better.

Yep, this is why I rarely let anyone in my town. I have 3 people on my best friends list, because I've been friends with them online for years and years and I trust them. I'm scared to let anyone in! I'm sorry this happened to you (I learned something, though... I didn't know you could shut your gate if someone was still in your town! I thought it would kick them out.)

I know you can't guess base on posts. I'm guessing based on behavior while they were here, but anyone who came in could have done it, which is why I said to look at the list if you are letting people in...just so that you can keep an eye out for things. I feel bad, because it kinda punishes everyone, for one person's bad deeds... but next time I will be more cautious, that's for sure.

I don't personally know anyone who plays NL, and until today have had no visitors, specifically for this reason. But with the selling point at 599, I had a lot of people coming and going (and Re-Tail is on the opposite end of town from my train station, so I couldn't follow everyone). I really wanted to be nice and give people an opportunity to sell at a high price, but theft really irks me. I don't want to let people into town and have to watch their every move. It's not worth it. I would never even consider stealing something from someone else. Too bad there isn't a good way to guess how people will behave.

I've always been reluctant too, and this is exactly why. I spend a lot of time on my town working to get hybrids and trying to make it look nice. Thank you for the offer, but I won't take your pansy, I know exactly how hard they are to get. Makes me sad that in a game like NL you have to be so afraid of who you allow to visit.

I understand that you're upset, but there really isn't any reason to make a topic about it. In this case, you had made a thread inviting people to come over to your town. You should have carried over talking in that thread about what happened instead of making a completely new one.

Furthermore, it is your own fault if you invite randoms into your town.
You're essentially inviting strangers you don't know into your game that you have no idea if you can trust or not. I'm not directing this at you, OP, but everyone on the site. This problem has happened way too many times, yet nobody seems to listen when we say not to invite randoms.

I hate that this stuff happens, I really do. I'd be pretty angry myself if someone came to my town and stole something from me. But there isn't any way we(the staff), can do anything about it if you don't know who it was. So please, everyone, don't just invite loads of random people into your town. The safest way to go about dealing with random people is inviting one at a time, if you can. Another way to prevent people from stealing is to have a friend or anyone else you know you can trust to come over and follow the second person if there is one.
