Does using the @ user mention function ping the user who you chose?

It does ping the user, and know there’s a limit, though I’m unsure of the exact number. If you go over, nobody receives the ping.
 
I don’t think it has anything to do with spam. I think it’s just the way the forum works and there’s nothing the staff can do, but don’t quote me on that.
But people may do 10 pings for example for no reason, so maybe it’s to prevent people from overpinging.
 
Why does it not apply to staff? Why would they need to ping more than 5?
I believe they would ping more than five for giveaways. For example, the 12 Days of Collectibles thing they do around Christmas may have multiple winners!
