Does Scanning amiibo Affect Non-amiibo Campers in the Campsite?

I've been scanning an amiibo every day that I don't have a camper in the campsite. Which is every day after my first smug that I was forced to invite whether I liked him or not. Mostly I'm doing it to get DIY recipes. But now I'm wondering if scanning amiibo maybe resets some kind of camper timer or something. Because I haven't had a single non-amiibo camper in my campsite since that first smug. I don't time travel, incidentally, so that's not affecting anything in my game.

Does anyone know if scanning amiibo affects the rate of campers appearing in the campsite? I've heard that they're very uncommon, so maybe it's just random chance that I haven't had any all this time. But maybe it's my daily amiibo delaying it. I mean, I'll probably still scan the amiibo every day until I get a few DIY's that I want. But I'd like to know one way or the other if amiibo affect the odds of a camper appearing on their own.

I believe that you won't get a natural camper the day after you scan in an amiibo.

EDIT: I use amiibo regularly and haven't gotten a random camper since the first forced one.

Yep, I think amiibo reset the campsite "timer" when you use them. I usually scan amiibo every day and the only time I've gotten a random camper is when I TTed forward a few days without scanning one.

My intuition was telling me that this must be the case, glad to see other people observing the same thing. Although maybe it's possible all three of us have just been really unlucky. I'd be curious to hear other people's input to get a clearer picture of how it all works.

I'm almost 100% sure there can't be a natural camper the day after an amiibo camper. Both from experience and the way the game mechanic works. It takes 3 days to convince an amiibo camper to move in. And those 3 days have to be in a row. If you skip inviting them for a day, the amiibo no longer remembers you and the 3 days have to start over again. So, when you scan an amiibo, the game assumes you are trying to move them in, and clears the following day for them. It would be pretty annoying to have to start the process of convincing the amiibo villager all over again due to a random camper, right? Especially if you don't time travel.

Note: I don't have 100% solid proof of it, but I've scanned amiibos probably dozens of times at this point and haven't ever had a camper the next day. And I've never heard of someone having a camper the next day... or else we'd probably have threads here complaining about a random camper disrupting their amiibo invite process

^^^ I don’t think that’s true about 3 days in a row. I’m pretty sure I skipped about a week on my last time of summoning Vivian and I was able to move her in. I could test with Dobie since I invited him twice about a month ago, but I probably won’t try for a while.

I was surprised when it only took one day for one that I'd scanned in a couple times before, but then scanned some others for a few days before deciding to invite that one in, because I'd heard about the 3-days-in-a-row thing.

Unless I had a really severe lapse in memory or something. But I think it's more likely that the three days don't have to be consecutive.

That's... huh. Ok. Guess I gave you bad info then I know for a fact that I was inviting in Avery, time traveled forward a bit, then invited him again and he didn't remember me. There are several reasons this might have happened that I can think of off the top of my head, like

- Maybe I invited a different amiibo in the meantime and forgot about it, and that reset Avery's counter?
- Maybe the amiibo will only remember you for a certain amount of time and then reset? I don't remember how much time I tt'd, I would guess about a month but idk
- Maybe I time traveled backwards at some point and that reset the amiibo?
- Maybe it was a glitch lmao

...Now I want to see if I can replicate it and isolate the cause. Good as way to spend a quarantine evening as any

It's still true that I've never had a natural camper the day after an amiibo, though. Maybe the game prevents it because even if you don't have to start over, it would still be inconvenient (esp for non-TT).

Or maybe it's just a very low chance on the day after? Would be interested to hear if anyone's experienced it

You may be right. I don’t know for sure. I think it was time between invites, but it’s been long enough that I’ve already let Vivian go and brought her back (the second time without a skipped day).

I agree with this. They don't have to be consecutive.

However, amiibo campers absolutely do affect normal, random campers. If you have an amiibo camper 1 day, you won't have a normal camper the next day, but that's because you will NEVER have a random camper the day after any camper (random or amiibo) stays.

Probability of new campers:

Days since last camper	1 day	2 days	3 days	4 days	5 days	6+ days
Chances of new camper	0%	0%	5%	10%	15%	20%

Yes, 20% is the max probability. It's really garbage and is why the campsite seems to be less used than it even was in New Leaf. So it depends on your priority. If you'd rather see random campers to see if you can find someone new to move in, you might want to stop scanning amiibos for a while. If you'd rather have DIYs, then go ahead and keep scanning 1 each day, but understand that you won't get random campers again until you stop scanning them for a while.
