Does retail make any money when we're not there?

In my game I never seen anything get sold at retail unless I am there to convince someone to buy something. Is everyone's game like this or is it just me?
Reese always tells me when/if my item(s) sell the money will be put in my account. But no one buys anything unless I'm there and then the hand the money directly to me! Makes that statement seem rather pointless.

It's the same with everyone, unless you have another player buy something at your Re-Tail. Villagers won't buy without you there.

Villagers WILL buy your stuff if you aren't there. I had Reece tell me when I walked in the shop that someone had bought something and blah blah. I didn't wifi with anyone soo..

Same, it's happened to me before, just seems to be pretty uncommon.

I've had them buy stuff several times. I keep my Re-Tail pretty well stocked though, if it's not almost full it might not happen. Mostly I think they buy the coffee beans though.

Not once has something been sold @ Re-Tail w/out I being there... & I pack the store w/ all sorts of goods...:/

I'm pretty sure the only reason she says she will put the money in your account is for when another player buys your stuff. it doesn't matter if they live in your town or are visiting, I'm certain it has to be a human. the animals will buy your stuff, but only with you in the store, with your permission.
