Does link hhd with acnl give you the villagers you have?

I have not played hhd and I do not fully understand how it works. But I know that you're supposed to design a house for a villager.
Does the game eventually give you random villagers alike acnl? Do you need amiibo cards to get villagers? Or does linking data from acnl gives you the same villagers?

If it's the amiibo thing, then I'm not buying it.

You don't need amiibo cards to play HHD, all the "regular" villagers will eventually appear for you to design houses for. Amiibos can be used to get the special characters like Isabelle, KK Slider, etc. since they don't naturally appear in the game. You can also go back and redesign all the houses once you obtain more furniture as you play the game.

Linking your HHD file to your ACNL file only gives you those huge HHD items you use for the special challenges in the HHD game. So it's just free furniture, nothing more

I like the game, I haven't touched it in a while but it's good if you want to just chill and design houses. You gotta really like interior designing because that's all the game is about and it can get repetitive after a while. I use it to help me plan out my new leaf houses
