Does idling give you a tan?

I've read some really contradictory responses to that question.
Thanks to TT'ing to a villager's moving date, I lost my precious tan and I'd really like to know if I could get it back just by idling on the island (I'm not really sure if I want to spend an hour everyday fishing as I'm quite busy at the moment).

If by idling you mean just standing still, then yes!
Just go out onto the island and stand there for at least fifteen minutes and your tan will increase incrementally.
But you do have to keep your 3DS open of course!
I do this every day for my alternate character and I actually lost his tan today through careless time travelling. It's such a bummer to start from scratch. ;_;

Yes, I do mean just standing still while the 3DS is open.
I've been going fishing to the Island almost everyday for the past few weeks to maintain my character's tan but then I read that you can tan by just standing there. However, some have disputed it and said that you can ONLY tan if you keep moving around so I wasn't quite sure what to make of it.

Hmm, no, I have no problem with tanning. I just put my DS on the charger and do something else for twenty minutes and it works every time.
