Or specifically, when there's snow on the ground. I've been running on the same path everyday to wear it down for a natural path, with no luck at all or any signs of deterioration. I also plotted a house somewhere before for plot resetting and it grew back rather quickly even though I step on it from time to time.

So does the snow help with growing back grass and prevents deterioration? What are your experiences?

I can't verify, but I think grass deterioration continues. I can still see it progressing in my town, but perhaps at a slower rate.

I think it does. Before I placed my paths, I was still wearing down grass even after it snowed.

Ahh, that's really weird. Mine doesn't deteriorate at all for some reason?? I thought time travel would affect it but I only TT by hours within the day.

Grass/snow always deteriorates when you repeatedly walk/run on it.

The heck.. I hope mine isn't glitched or something because I haven't seen mine deteriorate at all, only grow back. :^(

They always do, but it's worse in the Winter time since Grass doesn't regenerate.

Thank god it wasn't like City Folk.

Yes it does but it does so much more slowly and existing dirt spots grow back easier.

If you have natural dirt paths it's actually really hard to keep them throughout the winter unless you run a lot.

Your dirt will be covered slowly every time it snows (and I mean slowly). If you play daily when it snows, you'll start to see tiny white circles. This will eventually cover over with snow, and when you run on it'll protect the grass believe it or not. I can verify this, because I've been playing daily since June 2013, and last year I decided to make "paths" using dirt and bushes, running over the snow since it was a path no flowers to worry about. When spring came and the snow melted, I had TONS of new grass in the areas I was running, but in about 2 weeks it all became dirt- I kept running on the grass. So, the snow covering actually protected the grass! Trust me, come spring all your snow covered area will be grass, even if you're running on it now! Of course this is from playing daily, no time travel, so I don't know if time traveling will screw around with the mechanics of it or not.
