Does game time build up while 3DS is closed?

Does anyone know if you get game time, as your 3DS is closed in stand-by? I'm wondering if I should leave my 3DS opened, killing my battery for game time. Or Leave it closed an save battery, while still getting game time. I'm working my way towards the gold game time badge.

I'm not 100% sure but I'm going to say no since the device is in sleep mode.

I would think that it continues to record gametime because I think gametime is how long the software/game is open and not necessarily used.

I don't think so. If this was the case, I'd have way more hours built up than I do.

If I were you, I'd just plug the 3DS in and leave it open while the game's being "played" while you're asleep.

I don't believe it does, because although the game is on, the 3DS is in sleep mode. Mine usually is, and my play time is never effected.
