Does catalog shopping count towards progress?

I think it does. The majority of what I bought was from a catalog and I got the upgrade to the next shop.
I'm not completely sure, though.

I'm pretty sure it does. I bought a couple Rococo Sets via catalog to give to people and ended up with the store upgrade pretty quickly.

Probably because the store has to be open for a certain amount of time for it to be upgraded, as well as spending a certain amount of bells.

I think it does... I barely bought anything at all from my store, but lots from the catalog, and I got the upgrade. :O
