Does anyone have any tips for island decorating?

I am trying to get KK to my island and I haven't unlocked construction yet and I'm very bad at design/decoration things so I'm not sure what to do. I planted a bunch of flowers and added lots of fence but it didn't really do much. I'm trying to add more decorations and items outside but I don't really know what to do. Any advice would be great Hopefully this is the right forum to post on!

Put some benches, streetlights, a drink or snack machine. . . And don't forget a bridge and incline.

If it’s only for getting KK, I didn’t do much. Just a few furniture outside here and there. No fence. One bridge. Complete villagers though. I got him without meaning to. The first time I was to check star rating with Isabelle to start working towards it, I was already at 3 stars and KK showed up the day after.

If it’s after getting the terraforming permits..that’s the tough one. I’m still currently in the process of developing my island into what I envision. I couldn’t work on it bit by bit so I leveled the entire thing. No trees. No rivers. No cliffs. I’m slowly putting it back portion by portion now. It’s tough work even for a simple design.
