Does anyone else...

i really wish it didn't bug me, but it does, far more than it reasonably should. i don't mind themed interiors, but i feel like a lot of the themed ones in NH are kind of... over the top. well, to me, anyway.

an optional HHD-style renovation feature would be amazing! if i were to make a list of features i most desperately want in the game, it would easily score in the top five. or, heck, at the very least i wish our villagers could use the wallpapers and floorings that we send them.

It depends. Lol I just realized most of my villagers have a bed in their home. Katt is my only villager who doesn't have a bed, but her home still looks like a room I'd find in a house so I'm fine with it. I've had Beau on my island, and his home is a campsite/picnic area. I guess his home isn't really the "home" that most people think of, but I like it since I could see a deer living in the wilderness. I also just like nature themes.

On the other hand, I find it difficult to invite villagers to my island if their home doesn't suit my taste. Some homes bother me when the furniture doesn't fit the villager's theme; there is lack of/too much color; or I just don't like the theme. For instance, I dislike the wooden-block furniture in Fauna's and Goldie's homes because I think the pieces resemble a toy theme. Imo more natural-looking pieces from the antique, ironwood, and ironwood series would've been better for their theme. On a side note, Fauna's home reminds me of a pepperoni pizza (I love the food but-). Also I guess I just really liked the pink and yellow accents in her NL home. As for Goldie's home, it's so plain and I wish there was a greater pop of color. Then there's Merry's home, which seems oversaturated with orange light. I wish we could adjust the light settings in villagers' homes. I'm fine with "boring" homes or homes that seem incomplete, but I do wonder what was going on in the developers' minds when they were designing Mitzi's home lol. Lastly don't even get me started on Chief's home! 😭 His NL home wasn't the best imo, but his NH home bothers me. I'm not a fan of the urban alleyway theme. I just feel like a mountain theme would've fit him better. cry Compared to NL, I rarely see people talk about him or have him in their islands in NH. Not sure if this has something to do with his home.
Same thing with Bruce for me. I’m not fond of the whole alleyway aesthetic at all. It just gives off the wrong vibes to me...I do appreciate that he’s basically a hobo tho

I don't actually mind the outdoors-looking ones? Like I think Dom and Beau's houses are super cute, despite being essentially outside. If anything, I'd rather the outdoors houses to the really boring ones -- like I've been dragging my feet on cycling Fauna out & back in despite wanting all my villagers in their "real" houses because the change from the starter house to her real house is pretty minimal, especially compared to Beau's cute outdoor picnic or Deirdre's gorgeous autumn house.

I do mind the weird alleyway or trash ones, though. Katt's kind of garage band aesthetic is as close as I'd like to get to that; anything beyond that (...looking at Bruce, Chief, Zucker...) is pushing it.

I'd love having the option to redesign or upgrade villager houses. If nothing else, I'd love it to specifically be for starter homes -- as is, it is such a pain to have to kick them out and then invite them back, or to just suffer through the starter homes, especially the uchi/jock starter ones.

Yes! All my bear cubs have adorable houses - except Vladimir, whose house looked like a construction site on the bad side of town!!
:LOL::ROFLMAO::LOL::ROFLMAO:
I just finished redecorating it a few days ago.

It’s too bad they won’t swap out their walls & floors.

It does bug me too. I like entering a villagers home and seeing at least a bed, chair/table/desk, and something like a toy, bookshelf, or decorative item.

Some of my villagers have homes that feel really 'empty', even when there's plenty of furniture in them. Like Patty's home: It has the hammock, table and chair, and I still don't think of it as much of a home. Hornsby's starter home is filled with log furniture and feels like entering a small cabin, which makes it so much cozier.

I love Hopper, but he's modelled after rockhopper penguins. Those penguins live on rocks, not in homes filled with ice :( Besides that, his home doesn't have a bed or wardrobe or chair or... so it feels less like a home and more like a zoo exhibit. Then I have Bettina, she was the cutest little thing when I met her and I just wanted her, but after seeing the interior of her 'home', I started to dislike her... The kitchen island in the middle of the tiny place means there's almost no room to walk around, and it just doesn't feel like a home (again). I'm trying to imagine her as one of those homes where you walk in through the kitchen, but it's just not really working.

So yeah, give me a home that's decorated like a home at any time. There are only 10 villagers you can have at a time so I'm not too worried about there being too little furniture items to decorate 10 homes. So, given time and effort, I do plan on finding villagers that look cute, have one of each personality type and species at least, AND that have interiors that I do love from the start, without trying to have to mess them up first.

I actually don't mind it if a house doesn't look like a typical home, some villagers have really cool looking themed interiors which makes them something more unique. Although I have to agree that those which looking like as if a villager would live in a dumpster or only having a handful of furniture (therefore making the room looking so empty) are in fact awful.

I spend a lot of time considering where do they sleep if there is no bed or nothing posing as a bed. Although to be fair they all seem to have the ability to sleep standing up as is the case most of the time when I enter the house! I imagine Pietro just curls up on that moon chair.... I mean who knows? Its a sight i'd like to see!

Doesn’t bother me at all. It’s their own little haven to decorate with all their favorite things. Some of the themed rooms are beautiful and suit them well despite not having the traditional home-like items (e.g.: bed, sofa, chairs).

I occasionally give gifts I think they’d like, but I don’t purposely gift them certain items to ‘fix’ their living arrangements.

Ankha is the first one that comes to mind where her house is perfect for her. Nabbed the photo from the wikia:

I still have my 5 villagers with starter houses, so no, interiors don't really bother me at all 🤣 I like the unique looking ones even if they don't look like typical houses too. I remember visiting someone's Croque lately and he had such a cool maple forest interior. Seems like such a cosy place to visit when you're trying to escape the winter or something. If anything, I'd be more cautious about gifting the presents to villagers with unique non-typical houses because I don't want to mess up what they have going (since I like to give presents if I think it will suit them) The dumpster interiors are confusing but pretty funny imo.

I like my villagers homes to at least have a bed and a seat. I'm not a huge fan of the overly themed interiors that are really non-functional, even if they look cool. My top least favorite is the urban alley houses where they have like garbage cans and all this stuff out but they sleep on a cot/chair. A lot of the times I see Cranky villagers with this type of house and it really trips me up. I just think it doesn't match many of the characters and feels kind of sad. I try to ignore it when I bring in a villager with a house like that but ultimately I think I do end up visiting them less.

I'm also not a fan of the illusion rooms that look like they're outdoors. We have this massive island with so much outdoor space, I don't need to see another outdoor space. For example, Dom's house is like that. It's super cute and well done but I just don't like going inside somewhere and feeling like I'm outside again. The fall/ice homes are a little better since they're at least season specific but still!

I think I like houses that feel more homey tbh. Somewhere to sleep, to sit with guests, some sort of entertainment like a TV or radio. I like it when they use decor and plants and all sorts of things. When I walk into a home I want it to reflect a villager, not strain against them like I feel some do!

I liked Butch's home in NL, but his home in NH is an abandoned pit stop on the highway. They took some of the houses a bit too far. While I didn't care for every house in the other games, at the very least they looked like someone would live in them. It just feels too much like a prop in that way.

This sums up how I feel very well! I like when their homes reflect their varying hobbies and interests, but the lack of furniture in NH means that some of the villager homes end up looking pretty sparse. It feels weird to enter a home and see that they have a basketball hoop, a single chair, and a crafting table. For some houses it really seems like they could have fit a bed or couch AND a couple items of unique personality.

I’m still baffled by the starter houses, too. I don’t mind the default Lazy/Peppy/Normal homes because they still do look like homes, but my starter Antonio has white wood flooring, white wood walls, and a bare wooden table in the middle with a sleeping bag on the floor. It’s ugly and devoid of personality and it actually feels unrealistic to me that someone would live in a town for over six months and never buy, I dunno, a rug? I can gift him all I want but he’s still living in a blank void. I can’t fathom what the developers were thinking when they programmed your starter villagers to upgrade to such halfhearted homes.

I couldn't agree more, I'm the same as you. I have Pheobe, and I think the inside of her house is supposed to be a volcano, or, y' know, the place deep in the ground. there are some instances, like Cyd or Static, which I wanted, until I saw their interior. and the worst part is you can't gift them flooring/wallpaper. It's basically stuck that way forever.

...absolutely hate when the inside of a villagers house doean't actually look like a home?

I realize I am being a total house snob, but I find it jarring and unpleasant to step into a house and suddenly seem to be in an urban alleyway, classroom, beach...etc.

There are villagers I like, but absolutely will not have them on my island on a permanent basis because of this.

Anyone else, or am I alone in my snobbery? XD
yes. I think every villager needs at least some kind of bed. When I first starting playing this game I gifted wall paper to my villagers to get them to change their wallpaper. It didn't work. I just thought that perhaps we were able to influence their home a little more than what you are actually able to do.
Now I just go eh, they like living that way I guess for whatever reason.

edit IDEA
What if when the friendship of a villager is at it's highest (maybe even held to that status for so much time?) with a 5 star island rating, they will ask for your assistance to remodel their home because they want to change it up and you do such a great job on your island. And... you get to decorate their room and outside of the house. Maybe there are pre selected items you can choose to create their room or use things from your catalog.
I know one can dream lol :)

it doesn't bother me at all. never has, never will. the trash houses are probably the only ones i'd dislike but, overall, i don't care if my villagers do/n't have a bed because, at the end of the day, they are still technically animals and animals don't typically sleep on beds. i also sometimes like to imagine they have an unseen second room upstairs/downstairs that we can't access so maybe that helps.

regardless, the only two villagers i have with "unusual" interiors are lucky and ketchup, both of which make sense to me. lucky's is a graveyard and he's a mummy so that works because who's to say he doesn't just open one of those tombstones at night and sleep inside it? and even if you're one of the people who just sees him as a really injured dog, dogs are usually content with just curling up on the floor anyway. ketchup's is (or was) an outdoor/meadow/picnic area and she's a duck so... makes sense to me.

I think some of the themed houses can be cute and cool especially if they match the villager’s appearance or personality! but personally I do feel a bit bad for them since it’s their home and they don’t have a place to sleep 😢

the trash houses or the graffitied ones are just sad and it sucks you can’t change their flooring or wallpaper 😭 those poor villagers literally living in trash
