Does anyone begin to appreciate Tom Nook after New Horizons?

I definitely appreciate him more in this game. I saw so little of him in New Leaf considering all he did was stand in the home building all day, which I very rarely visited. He's so much more involved in island life now and I visit the Town Hall far more, so I'm enjoying him so much more now!

I like Tom Nook about the same as I always have. Meaning I neither hate nor love him.

I like that he has a bigger role than he did in NL. Isabelle has a smaller role though, which is too bad. Come on Isabelle, at least tell me who my daily visitor is instead of your crossword nonsense. Something is going on if Saharah or Flick or whoever is here!

I like him, honestly. My first AC game was New Leaf and I was somewhat indifferent towards him, but it's nice that he is such an important part of NH.

Speaking of which, that reminds me: I wanted to say that I’ve gotten tired of Isabelle making all those useless irrelevant comments during the announcements, and I’ve found them more irritating then anything. Wish Isabelle could just keep the announcement brief and say that there are no news today, and that’s it.
Same here - I also wish she'd announce stuff like Flick or CJ coming around, or new bridges and inclines being upgraded. The first two would be nice to know before I go and sell all my bugs and fish to Nook's, and I'd like to be acknowledged for spending hundreds of thousands of bells for the betterment of the island lol

I disliked him in City Folk, which I played for a hot second (less than an hour, I think). I didn't like playing on the Wii, and I was very put off by the fact that the first thing that happened in the game was I was made to get a mortgage and then had to sell items to the person who gave me the mortgage in order to pay it back. I started playing New Leaf because I thought it was research for my last job (turns out they meant Pocket Camp but they just kept saying "Animal Crossing" so I assumed) and got very into it. I don't dislike him as much anymore, and divorcing him from the store definitely helped with that. I do agree he doesn't have much personality.

I think his fandom for KK is cute, but I also am really bugged by KK--his nakedness, his voice, his "cool cats and kittens" phrasing so...

But anyway, moreso than a businessman, I think Tom Nook is supposed to be a furusato, a traditional Japanese village role related to collective debt, which makes sense when you think about the way investing in the island works. (I really like Ian Bogost's essays even when I disagree with him.)
That's an interesting article! Though he goes off in some weird directions, and I think most of these criticisms would apply much better to the online economy (which he doesn't even mention) than anything ingame.

And yeah, KK's dialog is so cheesy that it always felt like he trying really hard to sound like a cool musician to impress people, which is the opposite of the "be yourself" vibe he's supposed to have. The album covers have tons of personality, I wish that carried over into his dialog more

Tom Nook has always been an angel. In the gamecube game he had raffle tickets and had days where you could buy grab bags of random items. The man is more than just business. He gave his nephews job security. Sells you a house as soon as he meets you. Yeah you have to pay him back but who gives away houses for free?? He has to make a living.

I've always appreciated him. The loans might seem high, but you can pay him back at any time with no interest. It wouldn't give you any feelings of accomplishment if the upgrades were just free anyway. I'm glad this game he has a new sort of mentor role on the island and him being a major fan of K.K. Slider is cute.

Yes, definitely. I used to find Tom Nook so annoying, but now I love him and enjoy helping him realize his hopes and dreams :)

I like him! I always appreciated how chill he was was with loans and how he changed through each game. Also he's rlly cute!

Nook has always given us good deals buying and selling stuff. If someone offered to build a house for me in exchange for a few fish and bugs, I'd take that deal in a heartbeat. Then again, maybe Nook's deals are so good because he uses child/slave labor. How else does he renovate your house overnight?

Tom Nook needs to appreciate ME!
