I really mainly see this on tumblr, but I was curious for here too. Do you feel like after a while your character develops an image/personality for them?

I would say some of all the ones I've made start as blank slates: Midge, Gin-Zuki, Hazel, Sonia, Kasumi & Soren come to mind. None of them really started with an image in mind; I know I wanted Kasumi to be a witch and Soren a magician, but that was it. It was kinda whatever I felt like at that time.

Overtime Midge became a kind of tomboy, half of her hair shaved off, wears occasion guy clothes, alot of red, black and white for her waredrobe, not really girly. Hazel became somethin similar. Gin-Zuki was all about space and stars, while being flip flopping between girly and boyish styles. Usually girly thou.

Some just already have an image for them when I made them, like Azrielle, Ginseng, Dulce, Marisol and Yusha (she's technically not made yet but still).

I often have Skye and Wolfgang very close to my Mayor's house in all my towns, so I guess I could consider those my 'friendly neighbours.' But other than that, no, I don't really give personalities to my villagers.

Although, Kyle has seemingly developed a fascination of his disgustingly ugly picnic tee and won't shut up about it every time I talk to him. So that's a kinda, I guess?

Sometimes it happens.

My past two Mayors had their own stories, where I wanted them to feel more real than plain. I suck with OCs, though so I didn't push with much. But I did have these two for a long time, so they became something.

Mayor Nova of Salem was a becoming witch, who was really bad at gardening. Most of her trees were dead, and only her flowers came to be black. Sometimes she was able to get a orange or purple, though. (But rarely) she had dark brown hair, green eyes, always wore a witch hat, and a sweater skirt combo. Her home included a small kitchen, bedroom, living room, and a potion/study room. Most of the furniture theme was dark green, wooded, and rococo.
Her best friends were Lucky and Kiki, who she built up a bond with.

Mayor Mochi of Macaroon was as sweet as sugar. She enjoyed being mayor, but wanted people to see her just as a best friend. She had white hair, blue eyes, wore the celeste ribbon and kiki and lala dress. Always paired with white stockings and kiki and lala shoes. Mochi was very clumsy, so her face was usually adorned with bandages. Mochi loved anything pink and pastel, and her house was able to prove it as much as her clothes.
She was a shy girl but did everything she could to make Macaroon a happy place. She would bake often for her villagers, as baking in her pink kitchen was one of her favorite things to do. She made friends with everyone, even if her overly pastel personality was too much (but the crankies wouldn't admit it)

Oh, definitely! I created Ace mainly for storage, and I played as him a lot so I could get his house fully expanded and eventually decorated- I didn’t really have much planned for him aside from maybe... cool dude with an office similar to Moose’s house?? But the more I played as him, and the more interesting things happened as I did, the more he started to develop a personality all on his own! Now he’s a cute and clumsy li’l dude who wants to go on adventures, but is always getting himself into trouble- he constantly gets mistaken as younger than he actually is, and Daisy and Midge think he’s the cutest thing and have basically adopted him ^u^

My characters definitely have their own personalities. My mayor is basically a version of myself, but a little more outgoing and friendly, more like how I would be if I lived in a village full of animals rather than people. LOL

My alt was a character I created because I wanted to something more with the Asian style furniture and my mayor's house was so extravagant that I wanted a more toned down and humble looking Asian style home. Thus, my farmer character was born. He's really quiet and keeps to himself. He likes everyone in town, but he doesn't go out of his way to interact with them most of the time. He's busy with his work and his own quiet personal pursuits (he collects dharmas, has a passion for crickets, and loves to read).

I have plans for a second town that I have yet to officially start, but I already have a vision for the two characters that will live there. The town will have a bit of a darker theme. The mayor moved out and had a family, a husband, maybe a child (still working out the details), but one day there was an accident and she lost them. So her younger sister moves to the town to keep her company and help her overcome her grief. The younger sister sets up a small public gallery that she runs. Everything looks like it's going well, but the older sister is secretly working on alchemy in the basement to try to bring her family back to life.

I suppose I am a terrible narcissist. Most of my mayors are always named after me and look like me. I like to immerse myself in the town and live out a fantasy of having no responsibilities unless I want too, lol.

In my last town, Ebonmoor, I tried to have a story. It was my horror themed town where everything seemed okay, but there was a horrible secret. I had a doctor who was secretly performing experiments on people that I based on the weird doctor pigeon from Hatoful Boyfriend (don't judge me!). I also had a priest that I based on some characters from the Dungeons and Dragons Curse of Strahd Campaign that was sacrificing people in his basement. I had a cafe owner who was a secret cannibal. I think the mayor was the only one who was relatively normal (aside from the literal skeletons in her closet).

Kinda morbid, I know, but that's the closest I got to having a villager character with a backstory. Currently, I'm just tryna be Mayor Kimi, friend to everyone and Princess of Mistwood.

I do create little backstories and also personalities for my characters. Most of the time, it's
nothing special at all. I try to kinda show their personalities by the way I dress them, which
kinda works most of the time.

I originally made my character Doode (duuuuude) as a lazy laid back stoner, but he ultimately transformed into a hard working socialist city builder, making project after project, giving free stuff to villagers, and developing both the rich and the poor suburbs as much as possible. Everyone loves him, except for Penelope who he harasses and neglects due to wanting her out. Oh and don't even get me STARTED on Truffles...

Originally.. not so much |D But when building up Stardust, my mayor & villagers have presented themselves to have surprisingly strong characterizations I'm excited to get across in their homes... one day |D

Mayor Paine is a young adult, who basically packed up everything they owned and hopped on as many trains as they could on what money they had; eventually someone slipped them a ticket to Stardust, and boom |D Fairly on edge, like they can never quite relax... but, revitalizing a tired old town is proving to be a nice focus. They seem to have a heavy nostalgia bent, especially towards childhood things- a lot of toys and stuffed animals in their house, VHS tvs, one room set up to either coincide with upcoming holidays or otherwise look kind of like a birthday party. Otherwise, it just looks.. kind of like the house of a tired 20-something not sure where they're going.

Seti is... nice? She doesn't talk much, and no one's sure where or when she showed up- just that it was after the parabolic antenna was built. She lives by the train station and main street, and seems to love cutsey things...

Alphonse will move in once The Roost opens up on the other side of town, just outside the Stardust Park. He's a little reserved, and almost no one sees him around town- how could he go around anyway, when he's managing Stardust's only 24/7 convenience shop? I'm planning his house to look a little hasty and run-down- the main shop is nice, but the bathroom could use work & his living quarters are just pretty sloppy lol. (And of course, when the basement gets built...)

There will be some small story/plot elements to the town and characters, so I can't get too in-depth, but I've been having a ton of fun working it all out :D I'm slowly getting ahold of villagers who either seem like older characters or... oddballs, basically just trying to give the town a feel of a place for the down and out and disillusioned, but where they can finally be somewhere they build something close to the life they always dreamed about.

My mayors are myself, while the side characters in each town have their own personalities/roles/back stories!

I treat my mayor as an avatar of myself, so that doesn't leave much room for developing their own personality. I like to imagine that I am actually there in my town, and that is easier when I'm not playing another character.

Back when New Leaf was released in Japan, I actually started writing AC fanfics with my potential NL characters, so yeah each one definitely has their own personality. I've extended this to all my characters across all games too.

My mayor in New Leaf has a personality most like mine, but all the others are quite in different. I love them all

Aah yes, I'm not the only one. My first Mayor and even Gin-Zuki had 'break off' personalities from mine. It's like my personality was a basis to further build theres. They share character traits, but not looks.

Jerico, my HHD & PC character, who doesn't look like me either, is like a blow up of certain personality traits I have, like my constant sarcasm and bad jokes no one gets. She's more sassier and has more of a temper then I do also. But I never make my characters look like me. Brown hair and brown eyes is just so bland for me, esp when my characters can have purple hair and grey eyes.

I do not personally (as I only have my mayor currently and she is based on myself) but I have always loved the idea of it! I would love to maybe add a few other fairytale-like characters (princess, witch, etc.) someday, but I don't have any plans to as of now.
