If memory serves me correctly, in the original Japanese game, Nook is a tanuki, but since tanukis aren't as popular in America, the English translation of the game refers to him as a raccoon. So... what do you view him as?

I view him as a tanuki. :3

He has always been a tanuki to me. I was familiar with the animal from way back in the days of Tanuki Mario and the anime movie Pom Poko.

Fun fact: I named my dog Tanuki. :)

i DEFINITELY imagine him as a tanuki. last time i checked, most raccoons aren't friggin' brown! even when they are, they still have a gray tint, something nook does not have.

Tanuki
The coloring favors a tanuki better.
And I never noticed before seeing these replies but his name is very fitting for a tanuki.

Even if he is a tanuki, I always think of him as a raccoon.

It’s pretty strange that some of the stuff you see in Animal Crossing are not very common or well-recognized outside of Japan. Sometimes, this even leads to mistranslations in the localization process.

I see him as a tanuki since that's how the original creators intended it.

He's a tanuki. Raccoons aren't even the same animal lol, it's not like they're interchangeable or something.

Once I learned what a tanuki was, I could only see him as that. When I was a kid, though, he always looked like a raccoon to me :)

When I played WW & CF I always saw him as a raccoon. Common sense didn't tell me that raccoons normally aren't brown. Once I learned that he was a tanuki, alot of stuff made sense, like his name. I have a hard time seeing Kappn as a kappa thou, despite the name and his love of cucumbers; I always refer to him as a turtle. Redd thou I always see as a kitsune.
