Do you use the failed money tree method to plant your trees?

I haven't got a golden shovel so can't try for myself - but as far as I remember you could plant 100 bells to get a sapling (in accf, possibly also acww) not 1K - has it been changed in this game?

yep!! i do it. i once got a money tree actually but i was really confused because i thought it wasnt possible to get when you only bury 1k, which is what i always do?? anyways, i didnt want a money tree there but it was pretty cool lmao.
