Do you guys look up what bugs and fish are now available each month, or just play the game and try to find them all? This is my first spring in the game so now that there will be butterflies coming out and more, I'm stuck between just looking up the approaching march bugs and fish or trying to go old school. I've had my town since around November and each month I look up what's new, but I'm starting to wonder if that's defeating the purpose and spirit of the game. What do you guys do?

I didn't look up available bugs and fish until I got to 80% encyclopedia completion. Now I do, because I don't want to leave a season without getting what I need from it because I don't want to wait another full year to fill my catalogue up/get the gold badges

I use guides so I can make sure I get everything before the season ends. I really need to get my bug & fish sections filled so I don't have to wait until next year.

I only use the guides to check prices and Redd's gallery items- have to make sure I'm paying for the real thing and not a fake haha. Other than that, I don't use the guides. I've been playing for 3 years and my encyclopedia is maybe only sixty percent (if that) full. I was really into beetle (golden stag $$$) and shark grinding on the island for bells.

I usually don't use guides for things like bugs and fish. I use them to look up item prices and to know if villagers will like the birthday gifts I want to give them.

I use guides quite a lot actually, for bugs/fish to make sure I don't miss anything, for hairstyles and eye colour to make sure I know what I'm getting, I used them for how to unlock the different shops and find out about house upgrades.
Also always have a guide up for when redd comes to town so I can heck whether he has any real paintings/sculptures

I use guides. Without them, it is hard for me to figure out whether I've already caught every fish and bug available in a month or if I haven't found a rare fish or bug yet. I wish the game actually gave you information on when fish and bugs are available before you catch them so you know when you need to look for them in order to find them.

I use a spreadsheet I found online for cataloguing items (if someone is familiar with it, why on earth does it only have the paintings from the art section?!) and used Thonky for getting gyroids from The Roost. Will inevitably end up using some form of guide for the bugs and fish but not in 2016.

When I preordered the game I asked for the guide book for my collection.
I used it for picking the face/hair in the beginning. I also checked it for what furniture pieces I still needed.
For the rest I just played the game. Missed a lot of bugs/fish and had to wait another year for them to appear.
I now use the online bug/fish guide that gives you the where, when, weather and only in your town for all my other towns. It helped complete the museum faster in my other towns.
Also missed out on all the badges that I could have got earlier. I was having too much fun playing with the villagers and adding PWP.

heck yeah i used guides for everything: liquefy's guides at gamefaq, and thonky's guide. there was an awesome fish/bug guide too i used but their domain name expired or something last time i checked (forgetting what it was called anyhow)

ya i aways use guides for games...i start out freely but it just doesn't make sense to not use guides for big games unless youre trying to do some kind of challenge or have some weird philosophy...thats just how i think..i love discovering things and figuring myself but there are times when looking stuff up is necessary so you don't get bored or drop the game.

i used it for birthdays in ac etc just necessary info

Sometimes I do but mostly I keep forgetting, I'm not missing much so maybe I'll make more of an effort in the coming months. As hard as I try I still can't catch a bee.

Does everybody else also use a guide for their shifts at the Roost? Or do you just guess it?
I find it difficult to understand how we could get the coffees exactly right without following a guide, seeing as the customer only ever gives you like one idea of what they'd like....

It depends on my mood. I can usually remember one or two orders. If I want the superb coffee beans, I'll use a guide. If I'm feeling lazy and I don't care about the beans, I'll just guess.

i use a coffee guide for the coffee shop with Brewster, and the hair guide for the styles/colors, and to give gifts to my villagers on their birthdays... other than that no

I never used to use guides (partly because I didn't know there was a guide for everything about animal crossing xD), but I use them pretty often now for bugs/fish (I only have 4 things left to catch!), and facts about pwps like what kind of villagers will suggest them. Guides are so useful.
