Do you think users should be allowed to accept offers in PMs before in a thread?

Based on this thread - I'm interested to see what everyone's views on this are.
Do you think that a user should be allowed to accept an offer for a trade from a PM if they've made a thread about it?
e.g I'm selling a drawing for offers in a thread - a user posts offering XXX value, but someody else PMs me and offers YYY value, and I accept the PM offer. Do you think this should be allowed?

I think it should just be up to the user. Say in the OP whether you're accepting private offers as well.
