Do you think there's still potential that Nintendo will increase the villager cap?

My point was that not everyone is interested to make 8 extra players and they obviously did account for that space in the game.
So I think it would be nice to give us some sort of a choice.
I can see having an extra player max just to decorate my house differently but that's as far as I'd be willing to go.
But I know that everyone is different and plays differently hence I think choice would be the fair way to go about it here.

I don't want an increase to the villager cap because I know that if they did, there's a very high chance they would make it mandatory to have the max amount in order to get that 5-star rating, just like you need the full ten to get it right now.

I don't want more than ten villagers - I get the idea for wanting more because some people have more than ten dreamies, but I only have seven and worked around that to get a perfect ten with all personalities worked around my seven dreamies. Adding more would just be me throwing in extra characters with no real care who they are and I don't want that.

If they made it so it was a choice - so having the extras were optional and wouldn't affect your star rating if you didn't have that happen, then I'd be all for it, give the people what they want. But I don't see it happening that way, so I'd say leave it it is - people have already planned an island layout based around a set of ten, don't go and up-end that if it's not going to please everyone.

Maybe it would be nice then to have 18 "spaces". They can be villagers or human players. If you want to add another human player at some point down the line, you can kick someone out like Amiibo does.

That's almost exactly what I would want! I posted a similar idea to yours here! If they did something similar to this, I would be so happy.

I think it's more likely they'll add new buildings (like the police station or Brewster), so I don't think they want us to waste space with villagers.

I kind of hope not. Increasing even 2 more villager spaces would force me to do major terraforming. What I have now is perfect for my island to not feel too crowded.

I definitely agree with a lot of the people who have currently commented. With the current size of the island and the fact that people have already made use of all of their space, I strongly believe that they will not increase our villager capacity. However, if they expand the island (which I have no idea exactly how they would do that), then I could see them increasing the villager cap. I know a lot of people are upset about the current villager cap, so increasing the cap in an update (even if it means taking drastic measures to make this possible) could potentially happen. However, I personally doubt it.
