Do you think there's still potential that Nintendo will increase the villager cap?

I’ve put all 8 human players on my island and 10 villagers and definitely is a bit crowded. I don’t think more villagers is necessary

i kinda wish they would so i could add a normal to my roster (i will not sacrifice and one of my planned four smugs). if they did it would likely top out at 12, which would be nice. i'd like 12 villagers but at the same time idk if the island is big enough

I don't think that it will happen. There was a cap of 10 in New Leaf, and I don't really see any strong reason to change that for New Horizons.

I don't think so. 10 seems like it's a small number, but I think with more features being added to the game, our islands will be crowded with too many things and we just won't have room for more villagers. Of course, there's the possibility of expanding the islands, but I think that would defeat the whole purpose of the game. As much as I would like to have more than 10 villagers, I think I can live with it.

the only reason why i think this maaaaaaay be a possibility is because of the cabin update in pocket camp. i wouldn't bank on it, but i also wouldn't be surprised if something like that came about? plus it would be really cool and solve the whole 'crowded island' conundrum. i don't want to just choose 10 villagers, but i also don't want to say goodbye to my faves (which are quickly accumulating).

the fact that it wasn't increased to begin with is very strange. the bridge cap is now 8 instead of 3 (as well as 8 inclines), the human islander cap is 8 instead of 4, so you'd think we'd be able to have at least as many villagers as the gamecube version (either 13 or 15, i don't quite remember).

i don't know if they will, but i think they should increase the cap in a later update, however make it so the extra plots are optional and we can remove them in case 12+ villagers is too cluttered for some people.

I just want 12. That's all I ask for. I don't need a bigger island or anything to come with it either. I'm playing Sophie's Choice with my villagers. Some days I lean more towards one villager and others days another. Ahhhhhhhhh!!! I'm having a hard time choosing my lazy and jock. On hand, I've had the same lazy since City Folk but there's another lazy that I really want that shares my birthday and I feel like I want to finally give them a chance to live in my town for once. For jocks, my Jock in New Leaf doesn't look as cute/his coloring is different in this game but that's my boy!!! The other jock I wanted looks much cuter in this game and I also want to give him a chance to live in my town since I had the other one in New Leaf.

I love this idea of making it optional. It gives people the choice. I wish they did this for houses too, so people who want the big houses we got in New Leaf can be happy and people who like the smaller houses in New Horizons are satisfied. New Leaf gave us the choice to make the house as big or as small as we want and also WHICH rooms to build.

I hate to say it but as it stands the villager dialogue diversity just isnt strong enough to justify having a higher cap in my opinion :/ Even now having a few double up can be incredibly repetitive. They would've needed to add 2 more personalities imo to make an increase in the cap realistic

You realize some people don’t want to put any houses on the beach?

All i'm saying is that THERE IS space, not wanting to use that space is no excuse to turn down the idea of having more villagers. Honestly I would rather have at least two more spots instead of being able to put 7 side characters

It's not something that I'm actively hoping for since new buildings would mean having to redecorate my town. But there are a lot of villagers that I love and didn't have room for in my town so I wouldn't hate the idea.

v true! would be awesome if they gave us new personality types and increased the villager cap but that feels highly unlikely and probably wont be until the next generation of consoles (or they might pull a Welcome amiibo-style update towards the end of the game's lifespan).

As fair as that is, there aren’t strong reasons to increase the villager cap. So I seriously doubt that’ll be done.

What they need to do is give people the option to have either more villager space or player houses. The fact that they allow up to 8 player characters is INSANE. Now I'm sure there are plenty out there that do use all those 8 spaces but I think in general, it's a bit excessive. And they're isn't any real benefit either if you're a solo player, you get more storage sure, but you keep the same amount of design slots (which is stupid).

Some people already said this, and I completely agree. Allow us to choose between the two. If you want more players sure pick that, else, swap the 8 players in with say maybe 2-3 more villagers. I think that would be a great trade off that everyone can agree with. And just like the 8 player houses, they can be completely optional. Players don't have to add more villagers, aka, it doesn't affect the 5 star island rating.

I now have 10 and it means that when I look at my map there's a space in the list of villagers in the bottom left. I know it's for multi-player but I kind of wish if there's an odd number of players they'd put you into the centre or fill the space somehow as it's a bit annoying! That niggle aside, more would be nice but it doesn't feel essential right now.

Although I kind of wonder where the Nooks, Isabelle and the Able Sisters live. Above the shops I guess, perhaps via some hidden staircases. Big commute for them!

I didn't even realize that extra spot was for multiplayer! D'oh. I had assumed it was basically teasing us with a spot for an eleventh villager that was locked behind a future update or something similar. Now I can rest easy, haha.

@ OP, I think there's potential for pretty much anything. We don't know what Nintendo has planned. There were plenty of folks who were convinced prior to the Earth Day update that we weren't going to get bush starts, so even if it "looks" like something might not happen, who's to say it won't? (I realize the bush starts are kind of a bad example as many people also assumed they were coming soon, but you know what I mean)

Though I echo everyone's sentiments that we are sorely in need of more space...

The only thing that disappoints me about NH is that the cap is still 10. I had got it into my head that it’d be 12 and.. yeah. I was disappointed.

I just don’t know what I’ll do when I can finally add Chelsea, who will she replace? I like all my islanders but she’s my second fav in NL.

I didn't know there are 8 more space for multiplayer. I do agree with some people here that I hope Nintendo give solo players an option to use the other 8 slots. I'm the only one who uses the Switch so I don't have other people in my home who like playing AC, shame not being able to use the other slots.

I also like the option to remove a plot if someone moved out so that I could schedule my island hopping for my convenience since I have work from home during weekdays.

It's a possibility, but I doubt it if we're being honest. Especially if we're getting two new buildings, and possibly more in the future, room is going to get scarce, therefore not allowing room for new plots. That, and the number of villagers haven't been higher than 10 in literal decades lmao
