Do you think there'll be microtransactions?

I noticed today on Nintendo's official page for New Horizons (archive), the ESRB rating metions "in-game purchases." According to ESRB's website - this can mean the game offers stuff like virtual currency, additional in-game content, etc., but does not include random chance items (like the infamous loot boxes) - these have a separate rating to clarify there's random chance involved.

It's very possible that this is just referring to NSO - perhaps there's some method in-game to launch the eShop to buy NSO - however, on the off-chance it's something else, what do you think it could be? Do you think Nintendo could add microtransaction to the game? I've got my sights set on DLC packs for the game - as I can't imagine they'd introduce anything like a new currency that we need to use to buy stuff.

I don’t think so, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there was paid-for DLC content. Actually I think it’s a matter of when and not if.

Maybe it's just referring to the nintendo switch membership and the in game benefits you get from that

I don't think they would implement loot boxes or anything.

I doubt they'll add micro-transactions to this game. The most likely option is paid DLC in the future like Pokemon is getting, but I don't think it'll be in games like CTR where you can buy in-game currency. Doesn't seem like it would benefit Nintendo at all to implement something that would most definitely ruin the online economy when they're pushing online so harshly in this game.

i think it's for switch online, most likely. i feel like they'll stick to pocket camp for mictrotransactions, since that one started that way.

they do seem to be adding dlc to mainline series now, though, so that's a possibility as well. i don't think ac has all that much to be expanded upon, though... the seasonal stuff seems to be free at least. guess we'll see in about half a year.

Maybe?

I honestly don't mind paid DLC... I spend money on things I enjoy so it wouldn't be too much of an issue for me.

If it does happen, I doubt it'll happen anytime soon though.

Depending on what it is, if it was a one time purchase like DLC rather than heaps of micro transactions I wouldn't be bothered by it

I don't think there will be MTX. While some single player games have gone that way Nintendo hasn't yet. Possibly DLC though down the line.

If they offered micro transactions to rename a town, or player name, would anyone take that offer?

I know some people reset their towns just to rename things

No. That would be them charging for a solution to a problem they created. I would be pissed.

I wouldn’t mind making a one-time purchase for a larger DLC set, as long as it’s not for items or features that should’ve been included in the base game.

Overall I’d really prefer content to be free and available for everyone though. I don’t like the thought of some people having access to more stuff than others in a game like AC.

I wouldn't mind paying for something like the ability to change your character's name or island name, but I'm pretty positive that all of the content updates will stay free. This isn't Pocket Camp and I'm sure they know microtransactions like leaf tickets will piss a lot of people off. Though, I could be wrong...

I'm 99% sure paid DLC is coming. Nintendo isn't going to flush away that golden opportunity. I'm less sure about micro-transactions. I'm sure they're tempted to as AC is a golden opportunity for that too, but since AC is a family friendly game the pitchforks would be out in full force.

Paid DLC for more villagers (island limit), new villagers, new shops, new furniture and clothing, events. Probably.
Micro transactions, I don't thinks so, people will start to hack items, and find ways to profit from them, since trading is a huge part of this game, for example a micro transaction to get "the super chic set" for $2.99, some will buy it charge 1 million bells to catalogue or sell, and people would get it, They can put it behind a pay wall, because the game would crash when visiting islands or picking them would probably cause problems. And again if it's for bells or materials, people would hack them.

I really want them to include the pocket camp fortune cookies, Id pay for it sadly... But if paid DLC pops up I wouldnt be surprised, look what they did with Mariokart 8 on the Wii U

I really hope this comes by! c:

I already assumed, outside of Free Holiday Updates, that we might see Paid DLC.

There's several classic furniture sets, that were featured in previous games, missing from New Horizons.
DLC would be a way to introduce those, perhaps as a bundle with a new villager, DIYs, and clothing sets.

Doesn't pocket camp have several more hairstyles as well?
Just something else they could charge us to unlock.

It's not ideal, nor what everyone wants, but that does seem to be the bandwagon that most companies have decided to jump onto.
