Do you think there'll be microtransactions?

The only thing i can think of would be dlc that has an in game option to open the eshop. Microtransactions in a game like this are ridiculous, exactly why so many people don't like pocket camp

Paid DLC? Probably.
Microtransactions? Those are only in f2p games. So no.
Haha, I also don't personally think they'll add microtransaction...but, there are lots of full priced games that contain them - I wouldn't put it past any publisher these days!

Nope, not at all. They may have paid DLC, but no microtransactions.
I also believe this is the most likely scenario - outside of it being just a note on buying NSO.

If there is DLC I just hope that it's substantial, I'd go for like a second island or 200+ furniture items in one pack or something like that but I'm not about paying for tiny little packs like the Sims does, just seems wrong to me

This is how I feel. I imagine they'll continue with their free content updates for holidays and special events though.

I can see paid DLC working within the game but I'm not sure what they'd use it for. Clothing/special items are more micro transactions. Maybe extra features like the photo island?

I don’t think they will. I remember some speculation going around on Reddit about micro transactions as on the back of the game case it mentioned in game purchases, but it later was explained and disproved.

I think micro transactions would distract from the concept of the main game, especially as it’s a slow paced play-as-you-go type of game. I can’t see what they would include other than the downloads, which we’ve been told will be free.

I doubt they'd even have paid DLC for one solid reason - Nintendo Online is a reoccurring thing. I'm sure they'd rather have 10k people paying $4 monthly than 5k people paying $20 once since not everyone is guaranteed to want to buy ever DLC.

And I say this because Nintendo has made it clear that it's a choice between being "behind" in terms of content and using Nintendo Online. You can't visit other islands unless your game is fully updated. I imagine that they'd prevent anyone with a certain DLC and without from being able to interact, or otherwise, the DLC-holders could give DLC items to non-DLC-holders, therefore breaking the game.

I think they'd realise that paying the NO subscription is going to be able to provide them with some income for a lot longer than DLC will, and make any DLC free to keep people being able to trade and buy NO.

If they offered micro transactions to rename a town, or player name, would anyone take that offer?

I know some people reset their towns just to rename things
Honestly as much as I’d like this I wish we could just do it for free ://
Like one name change a month? Or a one time change something like that

I don’t think any first party Nintendo game has microtransactions. I doubt Animal Crossing will be any different.
Also AC and Splatoon are made by the same dev team and Splatoon no MTX but did get paid DLC.

Paid DLC? Maybe. Anything else... No. This isn't a free game.
Yeah, as has been said before in the thread, the cost of the game is irrelevant these days. 100% irrelevant.

I'd love to know where you guys thinking 'microtransactions only appear in free games' have been for the past couple years.

Fallout 76? Battlefield? GTA V? Any MMO that has a monthly price stapled to it? They are all paid games - three of those were full priced, triple A games from large publishers. I doubt there'd be microtransactions in New Horizons as much as the next guy but if the basis for not believing so is "well, it's not a free game," I'm amazed you have as much faith as you do given the current gaming landscape haha.

This is a very good point!

We're talking about Nintendo, who hasn't done that yet.

If we could get paid DLC to expand our island, get more villager slots or some other cool items, I wouldn't oppose to be honest.

That's fair enough - but in defence of my comment, every publisher was in that position at one point and many of them did put microtransactions in an otherwise paid for game. I'm just saying, 'well, they only put them in free games right now so they can't be in a paid game' isn't a compelling argument, because every publisher was in that same position at some point down the line. There's always a start!

This would be fine. Im not opposed to services like these, but would be sad to see in-game items or bells available

Bro if I have to spend a single CENT of real life currency to access new in-game content I will probably give up entirely and continue playing older titles. Amiibo was one thing as you could still access those villagers for free and it was just an easier way of obtaining them; however, if key game features or even household items are locked in this matter I'm outta here lol. I already paid $60 don't bleed me dry 😤

Do you realize how little effort is required on the game's part to rename a town or character? This is where you cross the line. All possible microtransactions should be made available for bells or nook miles.

*in before they start offering $10 for 2,000,000 bells.
