In this past I have heard from people that they think the island is too easy to get bells from. With an optimal setup, you can easily get hundreds of thousands of bells, possibly even millions, in a single night. The best part about it is that you can do it year round, instead of just in the Summer like the old AC games.

Do you guys think this method of making money is too easy? Or is it necessary to balance the costs of PWPs and other town upgrades?

Personally, I think the rate at which you can earn bells at the island is a little bit too fast, but I like the idea overall.

I think it's fine, before I used this forum (and used TBT to get bells) I did have to grind for hours on the island to get house upgrades, PWP's, .. I didn't mind, but if it were to yield say just half of what you can make now (I make around 400K for each island run when catching bugs & sharks) it would be much more of a chore. I get that you need to take things slow in the game, but too slow isn't good either :)

I don’t think so. I mean, it’s not challenging but it is a relaxing game after all. :)

So nowadays do you just buy IGB with TBT Bells? If so, do you think it changes your game experience for the positive or for the negative?

I dont think it's too easy. There needs to be a way where we can earn a mass amount of bells, since doing stuff in the town doesn't yeild nearly as much bells as the isnald does. The island is great for beginners who want to pay off their loan or PWP.

And how are people earning millions of bells in one trip? My average is 400k, I did that method of chopping trees and digging bushes. I read (not on here) that one person had only 2 palm trees and would just keep going back and forth between them and would catch everything they needed in like 15 mins, but it usually takes me about an hour or so.

I guess the game is supposed to be a challenge-free game, and it's only fitting that the island is challenge-free too.

yes........................... it is, as it removes the necessity of using other methods. for example- in previous games, you'd grind out event furniture or make sure you consistently check the stalk market, so you can ensure you make the big $$$$, but in this game you don't have a need to go on for different events as the furniture for said events isn't that expensive in comparison to a trip or two to the island, which will be comparable in time to an inventory worth of furniture.

this game does have the largest full mortgage of any of the animal crossing games (i think ww is second with 3mil and nl is 7mil) which is a staggering amount of bells, but the island definitely makes this far easier to pay than previous mortgages.

I think it is a little too easy just because it's available year-round and from very early on. While it does make earning bells less of a chore, it does kinda detract from the value of bells because, as carp said, it becomes much easier to just buy thinks from the online community than take part in the events.
I do like the island, though, so I don't think they should get rid of it but rather make the insects on it sell for less or have them be traded in for medals, which could then be redeemed in a larger island gift shop or exchanged to bells at a lower rate than in NL

I don't think it's too easy when you take the gold bell-hoarding badge into account, or even just the price of some of the Gracie stuff. It also just gets really boring really easily. Sure, you can easily pay off your mortgage, but you'll also need to do things like invest in the Stalk Market if you ever want to make 100.000.000 bells on your own.

Honestly when I go to the island I don't grind for sharks or bugs, specifically because I don't want to make too much money and finish the game too fast. Usually once I finish paying off all my mortgages I feel less motivated to play, and I don't want that to happen, so I try not to overuse fast money making methods like the island.

I think it?s fine tbh! Like others have said, AC is supposed to be a fairly relaxing and challenge free game and I feel like the amount of effort you need to put in at the island is just right.

I think it's too easy, but I suppose everything is quite easy in New leaf. A lot of it is handed to you I feel, and there's not much difficulty. But then again, animal crossing is supposed to be something relaxing, and stress free so i'm not surprised that new leaf is this way. I do remember the days of struggling for bells on other games in the series very well though. LOL

I have done so twice now (once 2 million, another time 4 million), just because I haven't had much time to grind at the island and I've been playing around with PWP placements so I went through quite some bells very quickly. So looking at it that way it has made the game experience better because I have more time to do other things, so I can still progress.

However, I wouldn't want to rely solely on buying IGB so I still do other chores like finding fossils and selling these. I think I'll do some more "grinding" at the island from now on again to get more money in the bank, as I have more time now to play. If I were to solely rely on buying the IGB here I think it woud impact the gameplay negatively as it would be too easy. So it's pretty dual for me - mostly positive right now, but it could turn negative.

This is also the reason I have not bought any carnations on the forum for example. It would be easy to do so, but I haven't unlocked these yet in the game and I want to do this myself. That way I keep the gameplay fun, instead of unrewarding.

I don't think so. Catching that many bugs still takes time, and even having the wealth ordinance will bring up prices. If I recall correctly, Reggie acknowledged that you can get so many bells by catching "exotic beetles" at the island.

I don't feel like it's too easy, but that might be because I haven't 'optimized' my island for bug catching. I like to keep it pretty much the way it was originally. I also only go to the island once in a while and typically only spend about 30 minutes there. I bring home anything worth 1000 bells or more, so it can still take me several trips/days to pay off some of the more expensive loans and PWPs.

I remember how hard it was to get bells in the older games and I prefer this. I feel like I can accomplish a lot more. With all the extra expenses in New Leaf, I feel it's justified. But I would also be okay with some sort of middle ground. It did feel like I paid off my home lightning fast compared to the old games.

I haven't optimised it either, I only chopped down one tree and left the stump. All the rest is still the same, I wouldn't want to have a super bare island!

There’s a lot more expensive things to buy in New Leaf, so I think it evens out.

Nahhh... Considering how it becomes our main source of income, i think its the perfect difficulty. A good beetle night makes like.. 250,000-300,000 and without flowers and bushes will take around 45 minutes of the same repetitive thing. So since its sort of simple and easy, i thinkbits ok.
