Do you think default villager house interiors will change?

I think we're all expecting two major item updates at some point: the return of gyroids, and a major influx of furniture (perhaps tied to a Nookling upgrade).C Consideringall the villagers' default homes are already designed, do you think it's likely Nintendo themselves would ever officially revamp some homes?

People have noted that a lot of villager interiors seem pretty off, due to a lack of items (like it being bland and/or wildly different from the villager's theme previously).
I feel like I remember gyroids being pretty common in villager houses in older games. And how weird would it be if we get new furniture series and NONE of the nearly 400 villagers out there have them?

I sure hope so. Some houses feel complete as is but others really need some new furniture, like, desperately.

Being able to redesign a villager's home at will would be super cool! And it would let us fix up any homes that are starter houses as well!

It would be great if they did, but it's highly unlikely. If the Astro funiture suddenly made a return, it would be great to see Mira's house interior look somewhat like it did in New Leaf. Her current house interior kind of doesn't make any sense. Also, if they did make changes, I would hope they'd make changes to Mallary's interior. It's just uninspiring compared to her previous house interiors. Also, Vic's house looked great in New Leaf. But they didn't have the Pirate set in New Horizons up until recently, and his house would look so much better with them.

I am very doubtful that it'll ever happen. Unless they added in some special quest like thing where if you reach a certain friendship level that you can redesign their homes. But with how complex it is to replace some of the items in their homes right now, it's very unlikely it'll change.

I do expect to see new or returning villagers but who knows when that'll ever happen.

YES. I've said this before, it would be AMAZING. Like, maybe as a reward for reaching the very max friendship level. It'd be easy to set up- just have them say something like "My house feels boring lately... Hey, do you think (furniture item) would look nice in my house?" you could say "No" and they'd be like "Oh... well, what do YOU think would look good?" then it could open up the decorating window and you could design something and the villager would be like "I LOVE IT! It's perfect!" and BOOM. Marina could have a mermaid house
...Or, you know, whatever else you'd wanna do

Yes, that's why I said it's unlikely that anything will change with existing homes. If players were able to free redesign villager's homes, you'll run into issues like DIY crafting because a lot of homes don't have the DIY bench out by default and it needs to be a certain sign for the bench to come out.

I think we're actually on the same page here - I was wondering if Nintendo would officially redesign houses. I also don't think players are likely be able to redesign villager houses, for the reasons you cite.

I've heard other people suggest it and think that makes sense. Because of the mechanics around villagers replacing furniture, you might have to be locked to replacing items of the same size (i.e. a table top item replaces a table top item, a 2x2 replaces a 2x2, etc).

yeah, adding furniture in future updates made me think of that. maybe the game just expects us to gift them.

i actually doubt it, but a lottie update regarding interiors would be AMAZING. we don’t need a HHD switch game, we just need this add on in new horizons. imagine it becomes a paid DLC instead lmao i hope i don’t give nintendo ideas.

i mean if it does happen, they could also still require the fixed furniture sizes in terms of redesigning. also there are 1x1 DIY benches.

Oh please let us get something like this I have so many villagers that have their starter house and don't wanna go through the process of moving them out and back in for their official house. Plus I really love happy home designer.

Short answer is no

Long answer is I could foresee a Happy Island Designer game that gives you more control over your specific villager's houses in the future, if you choose to do so. But you would have to purchase that game, progress to a certain point, and have a New Horizons save.

It's hard to imagine them suddenly changing villagers' homes but it certainly would make a lot of sense to do so! It is unlikely and I do doubt it but your right, it would be pretty weird if none of the villagers had any of potentially 400+ furniture items yet to come. There are ways they could do it/explain it in game to make sense. Again though, I doubt it unfortunately. It is something I would love to see, so many of the villagers houses lack any character. It's sad when older games in the series have features that feel more upgraded than the new game. That being said despite these issues I love acnh sm.

This would be a great way of doing it! A perfect example of making it make sense in-game.
