Ever since I turned twelve at the end of sixth grade, I've been suffering with acne. It has affected my life a ton, and has been one of my biggest insecurities. Some people just don't get it, and I've been made fun of. They don't know how it feels to have to deal with it everyday. They just don't. I have had friends that judged me (which aren't really "friends") by the look of my face. It's been what? Over two years now. and I'm sick of it.

Since I started to get acne, I've seen the Proactiv ads everywhere -- on television, online, etc. People tell me, "You should try Proactiv" in the rudest of ways possible. I've settled with products you could buy at the store like Neutrogena, St. Ives, and others like those brands. Nothing works. Nothing. My mom finally bought me Proactiv a few days ago (after all the times I've asked her to buy it). I'm praying this will help me out a bit, and boost my self-esteem.

Wish me luck.
+ I want to know how many of you suffer with this.

Popping them just makes it worse.

>_<

Being the greaseball that I am, I do have acne. It was much worse when I was younger, and most of what's on my face is just scarring. I'm going to see a dermatologist very soon to get rid of it, though.

ok now your not being an arrogant rooster.

I have a little bit of acne, but I usually don't have that much because, I'm very active, have good oral hygiene, and eat healthily(most of the time)

Yeah :(

It was something I used to be very self conscious about but it has improved.

Proactiv may work but try what your doing now plus exercising and eating healthy, it's working for me :)

Being an active individual actually contributes to the problem for me.

For example, during football, the sweat from my helmet gives me a crater for a forehead.

True, I find sweat makes my skin a lot worse.

Any form of exercise that doesn't involve sweating is good.

Like I said, now that I'm older, it's virtually all scarring.

eh, I wrestle, run track, play baseball, and am on a swim team. Wrestlers are probably the most prone to some kind of infection or something along those lines, but for some reason most of us have fairly clear faces, although I don't know why.

I used to have it pretty bad.

I tried it all too. ProActiv didn't work for me at all.

I ended up going to a dermatologist, and now I'm totally clean, and acne-free.

I suggest you talk to a doctor/dermatologist, and get medication from them. It'll work better then anything else.

@Fabio: Yeah, I know what you mean. It's one of the few flaws us italians have.

Swimming helps dry out the skin.

If I could give anyone who's suffering from acne any advice, it'd be to:

  • Find an acne treatment that works for you- everyone is different.
  • Wash your face in the morning, during lunch, after dinner, and before you go to bed.
  • Do not pick at your acne! This leads to scarring, which is my problem now.
  • A lot of acne is caused by touching your face. It was a habit for me. Do not touch your face.
  • If you're a guy, shave with a clean razor. An unclean one leads to worse acne.
  • The last thing would be to not let it hurt your confidence. You'd be surprised at how many people have acne and how many people don't even care.

Thanks for your concern.
If it's not too late, spreading Vitamin E or D (I forgot) on your face before you sleep could help remove scarring.

I'm aware of most of your advice but a lot of it I didn't really start doing until recently, it simply embedded itself in my sub conscious so I wasn't really think of doing it and yet somehow I was.

I still touch my face though....

Tomato juice can help too, just a fun random fact...

Yeah I still suffer from Acne, but it's not as bad as it used to be.

I wash my face twice a day with a Clearasil Soap that my mom got for me, and it seems to do the job well. It doesn't totally remove all the acne, but it clears most of it up.

Although I could do without the smell that comes with it...(rotten Eggs) Blegh. >_<

Grawr Italian? interesting. Meh, if you're one of the lucky ones sometime all you have to do is just take a shower everyday, if that. I have a friend who has no acne and has never HAD any acne in his life. Of course his parents look like supermodels, and he probably will too someday, but some people have it worse than others merely because of their roots.

Yeah, it's way too late for any home remedies. My acne subsided when I was fifteen maybe, it's been two years, and the damage has been done. That's why it's dermatologist time- the last resort.
