In the past, I have done it to make a lot of quick bells, though. The simple objects like the frying pan are a great way to make hundreds of thousands of bells in a short time. Something like that only requires a few pieces of iron...so, if you have a huge stockpile of it, you can make a ton of them really quickly.
Sometimes I do if I have a crazy amount of extra materials in my storage. For example, right now I have around 10 soft wood stacks and I'm waiting for something like the wooden block bed to be a hot item so I can craft a bunch and sell it to get rid of my soft wood, instead of just selling the uncrafted soft wood to Nooklings
I do sometimes...to clear a Nook Miles reward task or when trying to decide what to do next on my island. I quit selling shells outright because you make double the money when you use them for crafting. When there's a shell-related hot item, I'll craft a few to clear out my shell inventory a bit. I don't really need bells anymore, but I'm contemplating bringing a second character onto my island, so I sock away a minimum of 100,000 bells daily to pay off that character's housing upgrades. I also have helped my DD pay off her house loans on her island in the past by building hot items.
I think I did this a few times when I first started the game and didn't know what turnips were. Haha Now I've started making bells using turnips and I really like it a lot more since I can spend more time decorating my island and less on grinding away to make bells, which I found a bit frustrating and mind numbing.
i literally never check it and it's one of the nook miles achievements i hate getting, especially if it's something i can't craft ahaha. i've done it a handful of times and have always been resentful that i needed to do it to move that achievement out of the slot loool.
I used it once. I didn't get a lot of Bells for the amount of hot items I sold, so I never bothered with it after that. I had forgotten about it until I saw this topic.
I do, sometimes, if the hot item is something like the hearth. I can get rid of too many extra resources and make bells fairly quickly. If it's a cheap selling item, no way.
I can count the number of times I've sold the daily hot item on one hand (when it came up as a daily Nook Miles task and I happened to have the materials on-hand).
I think I did for the badge (pretty sure there's a badge for it), but I don't really pay attention to it. I get enough money selling fish, bugs, fossils, etc., so I'm not worried. As long as I can pick up items in the shop or at Ables, I'm good.
They're a good way to get bells out of leftover resources. My hot item today required 3 tree branches, 8 iron ores and 2 normal wood and paid over 12,000 bells. It's good if the recipe is more complex, but it's definitely not something you need when you got millions in turnips.
I do once my storage starts getting too full of rocks/clay/iron and I run out of room for clothing. I can often make 200-400k in one day just crafting one of the hot items out of my dozens of stacks of materials.
