i do not, because I have had people nag me for prices back in ACNL, and that killed the stalk market for me. I never even check the prices. I only buy 10 turnips ONCE just for the Ants, so I can donate them to the museum. After that I never even talk to the vendor who sells turnips.
I didn't really grasp the concept of the turnip market until very recently (given, I was quite young while playing WW and I only ever understood it when NL was basically dead meat already), but I dabbled a bit in it so far. It's really not the fun way to spend your day/week in a turnip queue though and get thrown out after hours of waiting. Sure, you make bank of it if you buy 'em for a good price from Daisy Mae, but alas, there's other ways to make bank too ... not sure if I'm a fan of the turnip market or not, tbh.
I have not played an animal crossing game before New Horizon and thus playing the stalk market is a relatively new experience for me! In the beginning I started out on the acturnip subreddit when it was relativity new and found lots of success with low amounts of stress in terms of entree frees and queue times, sometimes both me non-exsistant. After the subreddit got flooded with people, and to a lesser extent, bots, the quality of life that was there during the infancy of the group just wasn't there anymore. If a post for 500+ prices was even 1 minute old you could expect to see over 200 comments! Absolute madness.
After getting fed up with the unbearable wait times -sometimes up to 5 hours and no guarantee to get in- I found this forum, TBT. While I originally came to the forums for the stalk market, I have found the forum to have a whole host of: DIYs, NMTs, flowers, and just about anything else you could really want!
Overall, the thing I enjoy most about the forums is the community. So far I have only had positive and pleasant experiences with people I have interacted with. I hope that the community continues to stay this way as I'm sure it'll attract new players like me~. In the future, I hope to contribute back to the community in the form of a giveaway or just allowing people to come visit for Celeste, Sahara, Kicks, the Nook boys, or anything else once I am more established!
Yes.
My experience has been fine. There's usually a handful every week of posters with 500+ prices and I'm happy to tip for their hospitality of opening their town for me.
I usually buy 2 trips worth for the week. If I can sell both in one town then that's cool but, since there's usually lots of people through the week, I can always make the 2nd trip in another town too at a later point.
I'm not really sure what that makes me. I wouldn't think it was hardcore as I know some people will buy 5...10+ trips of turnips. So I guess average?
Kinda? My friends and I check prices with each other and make a little money that way. We don't really find the whole process with waiting for and paying for high sell price towns to be fun. All the power to people with the patience though.
I do the stalk market every week. I’ve made 21 million bells so far, mostly thanks to one very accommodating TBT member. I’m not so sure I’d take the risk if it wasn’t for forums such as this.
In terms of casual or serious I would say I lean more towards serious, because I'm a "low-key" completionist; as in, I want to complete everything but I do it at my own pace instead of rushing through the game trying to collect everything as quickly as I can.
As for the stalk market, I can't recall when I started playing it. I know it was probably back in my AC:GCN days though. I don't do it very often since coordinating when I can go to someone's town for a high turnip price has always been a hassle for me, but it is fun to buy turnips and then later sell them for tons of money!
Actually I didn't get to buy turnips this week so I'm actually bummed about that lol.
i started with the stalk market back in NL! i wasn't serious then, and i definitely am not serious about it now either, but it's a nice way to make easy money!
I do turnips in my own town. I've made a small chunk so far. I might start buying more than one stack once I get more comfortable with the patterns, but I'm just so nervous to lose money on a decreasing week.
I tried it for three week and made barely any profit. I even lost some money in week 3. You are pretty much reliant on other people to have good selling prices.
I keep seeing people here and on social media brag with how much money they made. I mean, when you have thousands of people who open their island for you when they have decent prices, there is literally no risk involved. It's not really an accomplishment...
Sometimes I feel I'm missing out by not participating in the stalk market, but to me, it just sounds like a huge hassle:
1. To make decent profit, you need to invest a hefty sum. If you only buy a few hundred turnips, your profit will be accordingly smaller.
2. But, by investing, you basically freeze you're funds, maining that you're broke until you can sell.
2. I don't have that much money saved. I constantly invest in projects, furniture and clothing.
3. I don't want to litter my house I worked so hard decorating with turnips on the floor.
4. Checking turnip prices twice a day is tedious. Missing just half a day may result in you misjudging the pattern
5. Again, I don't like being reliant on others, even less lugging an inventory or two full of turnips around.
6. I honestly don't feel like I need money that badly. Sure, my loan isn't paid off yet, but I'll get there eventually.
I never got into it in NL, was too scared lol. I decided now I really wanted to try, although I had no clue what the TT restrictions are and so for my first 2 batches i ended up letting them rot by accident because I TTed backwards. My 3rd batch was successful though and now I've got 7mil in the bank thanks to someone with a 600 bell turnip sell price
I bought some turnips on the first day I was able to in NH, sold them for a decent profit. Then I bought some turnips again last week, and they ended up rotting lol. I often just don't feel like seeking out someone with a high turnip price (who also doesn't expect me to give them a NMT just to visit their town). And my own turnip prices have been consistently pretty bad. NH is the first AC where I've bothered with turnips, and I'm finding that it's not really my thing.
Just started doing it. Never really did online play for New Leaf because I wasn't super comfortable going to other islands/ letting people in mine - definitely gotten a lot easier with the dodo codes
There is no way to get consistently good prices unless you visit other islands and sell there. There's plenty of places where people advertise their prices.
If you want to do it only on your own island, it absolutely is possible. But you probably want to buy less each week than you might if you sold on other islands due to risk, track all of the AM and PM prices every single day and plug the amounts into a turnip calculator (do NOT miss even 1 re-pricing or you will not have accurate tracking), and understand that if it's a bad week, you could easily lose 50% or more of the money you spent on the turnips, depending on how long you take to wait and hope vs cash out.
I have never participated in the stalk market in NH, but only because i freaking forget to open the game before Daisy leaves, even though i wake up early and have the time to do so.
1. I tend to often play very late at night (between 9 PM and 5 AM), so time traveling is the only way to play when the shops are open. Then every time I TT, my turnips rot.
2. I often forget to check turnip prices, so I can't track the patterns accurately.
3. I have less than zero desire to wait in a queue for hours and have to wait again every time I go back and forth from someone else's town. You literally could not pay me to go sell via online play.
4. I actually like paying off my loans slowly. Since there aren't any room expansions, it would be way too fast and easy to pay off my whole house if I did the stalk market.
I think that turnips are very profitable, but securing good prices is very difficult. Entry fees lower profit by a decent bit, but I still take home enough to think that it's definitely worth it.
