Another random question, but recently ive seen that many people do not actually play as themselves in their town, they have made up characters with backstories and everything, which i've never understood why :p but some people actually make it look pretty good..

Personally i play as myself, i cant imagine a made up character, as i wouldnt feel the closeness to the villagers

So what about you guys?

Definitely myself; i wanna be a mayor in this game after all c:

I play Cynthia, a character I've had for a looooong time. I'd tell you her backstory, but that's a pretty long mess of paragraphs.

I have a made-up character. I use her whenever I have the option of making a customisable female character in any game.

I play as a character who is an extension/expression of myself, but not a copy. I tried playing as a character named after myself, and even though it ought not make a difference, it did, and I didn't enjoy the experience. When I began to play as the character I made up, I began to have fun again. So, pretty much the opposite of the OP.

As for the "why"- there's no real answer to that. It's just how some people express their creativity, that's all.

Once I accidentally hit New Save File, so when I was on the train, I named myself Rover and I was a boy. I still have Rover, but he lives in a tent. I pay more attention to my main character, me.

I like playing as a made up character named as myself. All my AC characters are OCs with backgrounds, hobbies, personalities, etc.

I play as myself, although I have been messing around with hair and eye colors. Still, like Gizmodo said, I like talking to the villagers as "myself".

my character's name is corduroy ^_^
(not my real name, duh)
i'm the same way as hirisa - i play as a character who i would want to be, basically. i want red hair, so in AC, i'm a ginger. i love alice in wonderland, so i get to wear alice's dress. her personality is basically the same as mine, but her appearance is so much different. this kind of gives me the chance to really be myself, even if playing as someone else seems as far away from myself as possible.

gosh.. does that even make sense...?

i always have made characters in this way, but my name was usually similar to mine. since my real name is sophia, they would be named 'fifi' or 'sophie' or something. but in new leaf i decided to change it up a bit, i guess x3

I play made up, it's fun to play as someone else, you can wear what ever you want, any color hair. The options are endless when play as someone who isn't real.

My character doesn't have a backstory to him- he's essentially me. I always use the fictional name, 'Rel', when creating characters, so he doesn't share my name, and he also doesn't share my clothing or hair, though it is close. So, I sort of play as myself, but rather than make the character an avatar of me, my character does what I would want to do, if I were in Animal Crossing.
