Do you play as more than one character in your town?

I was chatting to a friend over New Leaf and they mentioned they had never considered using alts, and that they thought it was a pretty weird idea. So, I started wondering how common secondary characters were among Animal Crossing players. Also, I've seen quite a few people online using them for laying paths, but I wondered if any players use them for other purposes.

Here are all of my characters:

I normally play as the mayor, Moddie, who's in the middle.
But I have two other characters: Maddie - as seen on the right, and Alex - on the left.

Moddie is me. (Though I wouldn't be caught in real life with a feather in my hair. ^^; )
Maddie is designed to be the opposite of me. They were my first alt, I created them solely to lay paths. But over time, I've become quite attached to them. Alex I made recently to run my town's 7-Eleven store, that's all they're there for so far.
(...Alex earns under minimum wage.)

Anyway, here are some questions:
  • What's your opinion on alts?
  • Do you guys use alts? - If so, what for?/If not, why not?
  • How many alts do you have?
  • How did you come up with their names?

I use alts for laying down paths and such. I also use them just to change it up a bit. Being a mayor is hard work. Sometimes I just want to be a regular old gal doing regular old things. Oh, I also use my alts' houses for different things, like a school, hospital, hotel, etc.

What's your opinion on alts?: I think they're fun. :) They are a great way to show the theme of your town or display sets that wouldn't fit the theme of your mayor.

Do you guys use alts? - If so, what for?/If not, why not?: I use alts. :) They're used primary to showcase the theme of my town, which is a naturalistic forest retreat for city folk, with a little Middle Eastern antiquity. My mayor is the princess of the town, one alt has an ocean themed hotel and my other alt has a nature themed house and is the resident genie. I also use my alts to show furniture sets that I like. :)

How many alts do you have?: I have three so far, but I would love to add a fourth sometime. :)

How did you come up with their names?: They're all variations of my own name.

I have alts for laying pathsand for just being there. They fit my towns theme so I figured why not. So they have paths but are more then just path holders for me.
Their names are;
Eric and
Ursula
As you can see those are names from my second favorite Disney movie. (Beauty and the Beast is my favorite but I have a friend working on a town for that and I figured The Little Mermaid would be easier to make a town for.)
It was pretty easy to pick names since it was based on a movie. I also use them for storage but sometimes I walk around and play as them just for a little different dialogue and stuff like that.

Earlier I was like your all going to get full catalogues!!! Then I realized I don't have 1/16 done for my mayor so this task WASNT going to happen. (Especially because my wifi doesn't let me connect with others on New Leaf)

I can get you pictures later if I remember.

On a non related note, how did you make that picture there with them all there at the same time? It's awesome! :)

I have alts for laying paths and holding objects like unorderables and things I want to use for decorating but I don't have room for yet, but I also play with them. I only have three of them since I like to keep a new character spot open in case I need to check my town and reset for some reason.

I play with my alts a bit since I'm building their houses. One of them was even a character I created for the specific purpose of having a house that would decorate my town a bit more. It's also fun to play with them and see how different their interactions with the villagers can be or what the villagers say about the other characters.

You guys have awesome ideas. Especially, The Little Mermaid themed town. That sounds amazing.
The hospital sounds like it'd be rad too, with all the hospital items and the nurse outfit. School too, loads of great items for that as well.

Thank you. I played as all three characters, made them sit under the tree and took a screenshot for each of them. I then merged these images using Pixlr. ^_^

I wouldn't see the point to playing as different characters unless you didn't care about badges or if you are really creative and just need extra rooms to fill up. I have a secondary for paths and storage (bushes) and that's all he's needed for.

if you use alts, thats your deal. i wouldnt tho. i dont use paths nor do i need 'hotels' and 'bakeries'.
its too much to keep track of one character, let alone four.

Oh wow! I use Pixlr all the time haha. But anyway, thanks! I picked one of my favorite movies and just rolled with it. There's going to be so many blue flowers it won't be funny!!! :D

Pixlr is a good alternative to Photoshop. It's quite handy.

Haha, I bet you'll be working extra hard on the island earning medals for the island items, especially the mermaid series. Good luck with your town.

The only reason I would make a second character is if I suddenly started using a lot of patterns and needed more space for storing them. Also, I think feathers make beautiful hair accessories.

In my current town, I really put a good use in alternative characters (aka Jenny and Penny). I use them for path pattetns, town decoration, and other things. I also used Jenny to cut down my trees and Penny to breed flower hybrids. Plus, I used both of them to donate insects and fish to the museum.

I think alternative characters are a good idea, because the mayor may not want to be lonely, even if it's hard to take care of all of your characters.

I currently have two, both of them are in my sig to the right. And I named them after two Disney characters (one from Rescuers, and one from Oliver & Company).

What's your opinion on alts? It nice not being mayor for a bit and I get more storage
Do you guys use alts? - If so, what for?/If not, why not? At first for QR but I made them have purposes one is a shop keeper a hotel owner and a school teacher
How many alts do you have? All 4
How did you come up with their names? Bella is my school teacher is sounds just like a nice pretty name Benadict is my shop owner it sounds professional and I have my villagers call him Ben for short and Rudy is my hotel owner his name just sounds nice and friendly and my mayor Leeling is my name and looks like me

I have two characters in my town. For more storage basically and for obtaining all K.K. songs a lot faster.

I have two alts for different purposes in my town. I don't really have a use for them design wise as I don't need an awful lot of them, but one of my alts is use for a little sweets caf?.

My other alt is a character from a game that I really like so I decided to add her to my town. She doesn't really serve any proper purpose apart from the fact that I love her character. I'm also thinking about creating a third alt when I have all my dreamies in my town so that I don't have to keep the fourth resident space free for plot resetting.

I have two at the moment that I use but there is a character who I use for plot resets and temporary things, I make her the same every time with the same look same, same name (Lila), and if she stays for something longer than a plot reset then she gets the same furniture and a spare HHA jacket I never use but wont get rid of.

The other two are a bit more complicated. I'm trying to put together a medieval fantasy town so my mayor Aidan is designed as a young prince while my alternate Caesar is an older king. Both have full castles on opposite ends of the map, one black and one white. The town flag reflects this with a rampant lion on a background of half black and half white split diagonal to show how the 'kingdom' is split. Each castle even has a stained-glass window on the upper floor to represent their 'god' but since I don't want to bring serious religion into a fun little game the 'gods' are represented by a pidgeot with an ammonite fossil underneath and flareon with a trilobite respectively as a Twitch Plays Pokemon reference.

Aidan is social and outgoing, he tends to host when people visit and donated everything currently in my museum. His closest friends are Whitney and his knight Sterling but he tries to make time for every villager, even if he doesn't like them (I hated Octavian and still wound up with two villager pics of him).

Caesar tends to finances and the perfect peach orchards. Most of my money is stored with his account and every ounce of his personal storage is filled with peaches. His castle theme is ores and every room is devoted to a different custom ore set (main room is golden, upstairs is modern silver, basement is amethyst polka dot, ect.).

Once I have all my dream villagers and have things a bit more organized I plan to add two more characters like an alchemist and beastmaster but they'll mostly be for dream visitors to interact with and for storing paths and items so they wont be very active.

I have all 4 alt char. in my town xD I use them to store items but also because I like to display all my favourite sets etc. So having 4 fully upgraded houses means I have a lot more room! I mainly use my main char. (Chiska) for everything to do with the town and be friends with everyone etc. But each of the alt's have 1 'BFF' that I make sure they talk to everyday, I just think it makes that game more interesting and holds my attention longer when there's more to do xD

I have played all the ac games and never once thought of using alts until i played new leaf.I used to get disappointed when my house was finished and decorated.I would wish that the house was way bigger so i could decorate some more.It seems weird to me that i never thought to start another character. The only reason i started alts in new leaf was because i had visited some cool themed towns that used all the alts to help with their theme.
