I don't rely on what people call "themes" or I would not even call my island having this or that kind of theme. I just try to build something that looks great like "Okay, I want a museum near my entrance and I want it big like it would also be some kind of a park. It'd be nice to see my villagers walking there". Then goes to my Resident Service. "I want to put a fountain surrounded by terraformed little waterfalls to highlight it as an important area". And ohh, I have a heart pond on the west side. I wanted to put a cafe area on there then when you walk past by, there would be an amusement area with an elevated platform for the music/band".Then I would design a camping area where my campsite is, obviously. And then, I wanted to make use of Celeste items and at the same time, I wanted it to have plants and flowers so I thought about making a garden-like observatory. Something like that, and built it on a higher cliff. I tried to make sure everything is connected and they fit the other areas I built on my island. If they don't , I won't push it like I'm not going to put a pirate ship or something outside since it would feel out of place. If I want something like that, I would just make a room dedicated to it. That's why I have alt. characters whose rooms reflect their interests and hobbies. I saved the living room, bathroom and stuff you see in a real house to my Resident Representative.

Yes I recently did! I mixed castle/nature theme (well I'm still working on it) I think it looks okay but maybe that's just me haha. It probably looks odd.

Im going for a tropical island theme overall so I am sticking with that one theme. Within my island I have different "areas" but they all have a common tropical undertone

Mine is definitely a mix. I've got a village/town area with a few modern amenities, outdoor cafe and a big Gorky Park-style park, a more rural residential area with some agrarian vibes and a little swamp, a small zen garden, a bamboo/zen grove, a big spooky ziggurat, a mermaid/shell beach spot, a flower/woods nature trail, a flower garden, a small rainbow garden/waterfall path, a rustic camping island, and a forested area that will eventually be a bit fairy-tale/mush-ey.

Oh, and of course a hybrid flower storage beach. :cautious:

There are a lot of fairly natural/wild feeling pathways in between, and it all feels pretty cohesive. Nothing is too over-the-top and the changes between areas aren't too sudden or drastic.

I didn't really try to go with a specific theme on my island. There are areas that have a fairy tale feel, and one of my friends said she gets "Anne of Green Gables" vibes from my island, which is nice.

I wanted to stay fairly natural, but I also wanted to make it somewhat realistic. The area around the airport and RS are most developed, since that would be where the settlement first began. Moving across the river to the neighborhoods, it's still developed, but a touch less manicured. Up the cliffs, where my house is, it's the least developed. No paths, except where the trees naturally lead, flowers scattered about, broken walls, etc.

It suits me and the way I play, which is what counts. It's always fun to hear how people decorate. My best friend has custom paths all over, rather limited avenues of travel, lots of stuff out for decoration. It's fun and I love to visit, but I'd never be able to live with it. Still, it suits her, so it's good.

I'm aiming for themes in my island that revolve around my villagers! For example, I'm planning on making a superhero base for kid cat and mira as well as a desert retreat/mini egypt for Ankha

Mine has a forest/lake vibe in part of it that I’m not sure fits into the “cottagecore” category as I’m not as committed to the custom path scene. It honestly reminds me a bit of Stardew Valley (another of my top favorite games). When I first built up my island I had a zen area and a garden area, but in my last remodel I kind of merged things together. I have smaller garden plots in several areas of my island near homes and such. The side that I have my Resident Services holds the shops and museum though. It definitely feels like the shopping area of a small town haha.

I’m always so amazed when people can blend themes seamlessly into their islands— I tend to just try to place things organically in a way that has good flow and I enjoy. It’s nice when other people come over and can enjoy it to, but I like it a lot and my villagers haven’t complained yet even though I’ve moved their houses like 5 times ;)

I'll definitely be mixing themes. I find that one theme tends to look really monotonous, and if you mix them well, it can end up looking really unique.

I have a mix of themes as well, I couldn't stick to one! I had no clue what to do with my entire island 😅

My island has multiple themes. Might as well go all out on this island since it's way too expensive to buy a new switch just to have another island smh.

I feel like if you stick with one theme, it's a lot harder to figure out what to fill space with. I also don't necessarily see "forest" or "town" as themes so much as sections of an island like neighborhoods are. I have a forest, a downtown section around the entrance, a countryside (or what's supposed to be one but I don't have it decorated much atm), and two neighborhoods one of which has tropical stuff going on. I hope to kinda tie them together with some motif so they don't feel random, though my commitment to using all flowers kinda doesn't help that lol.

Also great angst the lag in that island tour... and it doesn't even look that cluttered! I wouldn't be able to stand that - I'd make the tour video and then tear it all down right away lol

No strict adherence to themes here. I don't really like for my island to feel very compartmentalized, so I have a mix of all tree types all over the island and resident houses are all over the island in different mini neighborhoods.

I do take inspo from all kinds of more themed islands though, in terms of clutter and landscaping ideas. But for me, I am just not interested in developing a heavily themed island.

I've never thought of what theme my island is, I just decorate it in a way that I think looks good.
If I had to pick a theme, it would be natural.

My overall theme is just European, but i guess it's a mix of rural and urban with one side being rural and the rest of ti being urban.

My island has a "retro AC" theme, as I call it... which, to me, means it's pretty natural, with some scattered areas of development and small little house clusters. I have areas focused on the beach, a small shopping district, some cool stuff around the museum (including a dig site), and a nice woodland area in the back (I mean, my island IS named Woodland, so). It's got a wide variety of themes, but nothing is overly fancy or anything. Just nice, simple, classic AC. It gives me a chance to use all sorts of different decorations and ensures that, no matter who moves to my island, they'll have a nice place to live ☺

i wouldn’t say my island has a theme, necessarily. it’s just an island, with a couple cute areas, that seems accessible, yet not simple, that feels very me.

I mix it up so I don't get bored of it. I also like practicality so lol. I cant imagine having a fishing bug tourney and not being able to do anything

I couldn't decide between two themes, so I decided to combine them. I'm doing tropical zen.
