Mother's Day Carnation
Since New Leaf snooty and cranky villagers have been toned down quite a lot. Personally I think this is a mostly a good thing. Although it may sound weird, they could still use a little more arrogance for me. However I don’t want them as unlikeable as in City Folk lol.

What do you think?

i think it's pretty good as it is now. From what i can remember of City Folk i tried hard to stay away from Cranky and snooty but now I have a cranky boi as one of my all time favs... I still sort of stay away from Snooty but they arent super rude and i appreciate that

I would like to have a teensy weensy bit of rudeness to them. Maybe like once in awhile, but many children play(at least what I think) the game so if the villager being rude, they might cry and y'know

I kinda felt it was more of an achievement when yo befriended a cranky or a snooty. I definitely don't want them as mean as the earlier games but maybe a bit more like new leaf? More varied dialogue is more important though.

I really liked the crankies (and snooties) in NL. They weren't off-putting but you could really feel that they didn't warm up to you right off the bat and befriending them felt like a whole process.

I like how rude they were in the original game:

After a while of trying to talk to them, they begin to warm up to you. Resetti was another example of how "mean" characters could be to you. I personally feel like rudeness added to the charm and humor of the game.

I wouldn't really say New Leaf was much better...I miss the gamecube days of them definitely.
There has been a few cranky interactions (when you catch them in convo with other players especially two cranky together) though that I felt were more bold than New Leaf but it's been few and far between.

Crankies yes, snooties HECK NO. At least crankies in earlier games could be somewhat approachable when you barely knew them. Snooties were awful and the only ones I remember are because they were horrid. I’m SO glad that I can actually talk to them without seething a bit inside.

They don't really feel that cranky or snooty to me anymore at all, honestly. The Gamecube game's interpretation of those personality types was the best and I wish they'd return to that. It added some spice to the game, and the dialogue from those types was the most entertaining. I get that the series is relaxing and all, but I don't need every villager being varying degrees of generically nice all the time. Not to say the cranky and snooty ones should be ranting at you and insulting you nonstop lol, but even just a little bit more than they currently do would go a long way IMO.

Wild World was my favourite for dialogue. GC was great but sometimes crossed a line for a kid's game.

I like them now actually but still miss the old personalities more.

I don't really miss the meanness. I look back at the things said in the GCN version and it's pretty nasty. I'd understand a little bit of grouchiness that you have to break through as you get to know the villager (and think that should be a thing, and I realize it's not in NH or any of the recent AC games), but my biggest issue with villager interaction lies elsewhere - the repetition, the lack of giving us stuff to do (just give us back the option to ask for errands for god's sake!) and stuff like that.

NH's villagers are passive aggressive (acting like you talking to them a second time in one day is being clingy), really don't have much to say at all, and rarely give you anything to do.

I never played any of the previous games, but I would like it if they would be a little more rude and you had to increase your friendship for them to warm up to you (kinda like Sable had to warm up to you before she started talking more).

I miss WW snooties/crankies, where I think they had the perfect amount of attitude. I don't remember what they were like in CF, but I think they were alright there, too. GC was a bit extreme and I think NL is pretty similar to now where it was far too watered down. I miss getting villagers to warm up to me instead of having them be super nice to me right off the bat.

Personally, I like them as they are now! I wouldn't mind a little more attitude, but I also like their personalities as they are. I don't think they really need to be "mean" to have unique personalities.

Depends on the villager, Del as our current cranky we're fine having him be more "fatherly, but for Octavian the reason we don't have him is because he doesn't seem to fit as a modern cranky if that makes sense.

I prefer where they are now. If there was a change maybe after a bit of time befriending a villager they could slowly open up to you about themselves. Each villager actually has a family, future job and something they are good at. They all have a birthday so they could also talk about their zodiac signs/ what their life was like back home. Why don't they talk about that? If they did it could really add to the limited dialogue pool while not really having repeats once you befriend them. Plus that could be more of a reason people might want to actually talk to their villagers. You can make the villagers interesting without falling back on them being rude/mean.

I played the GC and DS games growing up and I most certainly avoided the villagers that were rude and right down mean. As a kid it hurt my feelings why were they telling me they hated my town or that I annoyed them and ect. I remember Truffles sent me a letter when she left that basically said she's glad she could leave the dirt hole of my town and she was a peppy. Maybe as Adults some people can find humor in it but a good chunk of user base are little kids/people who are already go through enough that don't need a villager being a jerk.

I don't mind the new takes on the personalities, but I really feel like their names have to be changed. Other personalities have really taken over what the snooty used to be. Peppies are much more self-absorbed in this game. Sisterlies are a lot meaner (although in kind of a "tough, older sibling" fun kind of way). That leaves the only defining characteristic of the current snooty is... Mature. People have said they now seem more like an aunt character, and I really feel that.

As for cranky, they're like, the same, but watered down. They talk about being old but in a mild way. And any insults they make, they take back right away. "Well, aren't you a sight for sore eyes. I'm just kidding, haha!" Like, they're old, but not... Cranky. I almost feel like the names of half the personalities should be changed. You could honestly have "jock, tomboy, sweet, childish, smug, peppy, old, and mature" and those to me seem like better descriptions of the personalities.

I feel like Snooties and Crankies could use a bit more bite, as they are they're a little too friendly. As funny as I thought they were in the GCN version, I can see how others thought it was too much.

I can't really "miss" them since I haven't experienced then first hand unfortunately. However, based on the videos and stuff I've seen of them, I really wish they would return. I want them to be extremely rude and mean to me so then when I earn their friendship, it feels more rewarding. At this point, they shouldn't even be named cranky or snooty, because they honestly just don't fit those descriptions. I'd love for them to roast and insult me lol. It would make talking to villagers more interesting.

I would love if they returned to the rudeness levels of WW/CF. It made it feel so much more rewarding when you actually befriended them and they slowwwly started being nicer to you! Now, their personalities don't evolve at all. Plus, the personality types are all starting to feel more and more similar - like everyone's one step away from being a Normal type.

The other option that I would be OK with would be changing their personality type names, since they really don't match currently. Instead of Snooty, they seem more Elegant or Mature. And Crankies seem more like Old Man types. It's much more "Back in my day..." than "Don't talk to me, stupid!" like it was in the old games.
