Nah, I never open a gift which isn't for me. I always did it in wild world because I was really curious/nosy but now I don't like pixel animals to get angry at me for opening something that isn't for me hehehe.
I like being the person who delivers their present and while I've been tempted out of curiosity as to who got what and so forth, I don't open it. I think I only do so if the Villager asks me about it via a guessing game or something like that and I wanted to. Otherwise, no, not really.
I choose not to, purely because I think it's cool to watch the villagers get things for eachother on a whim, etc. etc. I used to back on the gamecube, though-- I'd like to keep the gifts for myself when I was younger. I was a pretty selfish child.
I don't like opening presents, but it screwed me over once with Pierce. One day, Lionel pinged me to give Pierce an awesome shirt that matched his color scheme perfectly compared to his old one which made him look like a snow cone. The next day, Lionel pinged me again to do the same thing, but Pierce ended-up with a worse shirt. I told him it looked ugly, but he kept it anyway, and gave me the first shirt Lionel gave him. e.e I'd feel bad if I looked at the presents, though...
No, because I actually want to complete the quest and get rewarded. Besides, anything that's delivered to them is automatically cataloged by you since the game counts that as still having possessed the item at some point (Yes, even if all you had was the present box), so even more reason to let them just go ahead and have it.
Erik survived in two of my towns, never having changed his clothes. The day after he arrived in Mirage, Ed had me deliver some ugly shirt to him, which he promptly changed into. Even though "the fate of a future friendship" was on the line, I reset and opened the package and threw it away (I had saved after having the package in my inventory). Don't worry, Ed. You aren't going to be around that long anyway.
Oh, other than that time, I never open their gifts.
