Do you have a unique/rare name?

I was unfortunately named Barbara after my aunt..... most people just end up calling me Barbie for short lol.

I have a quite uncommon name (in America at least). My parents named me after both my grandmother's names, but it's also an old French name.

I'd always feel bad that I couldn't find my name on those genaric keychains you get at tourist traps. I don't care as much anymore, I just hate having to correct people when they misshear it or it sounds simular to other people's names.

My name is Raven.

Yes, that’s my legal name and not a nickname/gaming persona. Common responses to my name include:
“That‘s so Raven!”
“Like the Teen Titan?”

It might not sound all that weird, but hear me out.

I have been raised in a southern American Catholic home, school, and community my entire life (I identify as agnostic now) so my name stands out a lot since it’s not straight out of the Bible or a Saint’s name. For those who aren’t religious, a Saint is a Catholic person who lived a holy life and became a venerable figure after their death.

I am also biracial (half white and half hispanic) and my name is unlike any other on either side of my family. My mom wanted me to have a different name and she succeeded.

Although I was bullied for my name as a little kid (yup, that happened) I have learned to love and appreciate it more. I have only met three or four people named Raven in my life (I’m 17) and none of them spelled it the way I do.

Do you have a rare/unique name? Tell me about it!
I really like your name! My name, Yael, is somewhat uncommon, I don't know if you had heard it before?

Also, I'm not trying to question your identity, but what do you mean you're "birracial" when you said you're half white and half hispanic? Hispanic is definitely not a race, more like an identity. Even more, this identity can apply for many races, as there can be White Hispanics, Black Hispanics, etc. Probably what you're talking about is that your Hispanic ancestor was a mixed-race person, probably with European and Indigenous ancestors, am I right? In that what, you would be around 75% White and 25% Indigenous, based on a rough estimate.

My name's Clara and ive only ever seen it in old people or in other countries lol
I personally really hate the name

I’ve never heard your name before. I like it! How do you pronounce it?

Also, good question! I use term “Hispanic” to describe myself because the Hispanic side of my family is of mixed Spanish and Mexican descent. “Hispanic” is an umbrella term for having ancestors from a Spanish-speaking nation, including Spain. That’s how it works where I’m from, anyway. I’m receiving a lot of Hispanic scholarship opportunities based on my Spanish/Mexican lineage.

I say “white” to describe myself because the white side of my family claims to have German, Irish, and Austrian blood but I’m not sure. My mom is 100% Hispanic although I have no idea how much of her lineage is Spanish and how much is Mexican. My dad is 100% white and I don’t know which European country is most evident in his genes.

Since I don’t know my exact ancestral countries and the amount of lineage I have from them I prefer to use umbrella terms just in case I do end up taking a DNA test one day. Hopefully that makes sense!

i did but recently it seems like every second person has my name lol

I’ve never met someone named Kai. I like it! It’s very modern and youthful.

My name is Maria! Ignore the obnoxious spilling in my profile, please XD It is somewhat rare where i live which makes some people think i am a foreigner because of it lol.

Yes. It's rare enough that it's very specific. I'm sure I do share my name with someone in this world but in my country? I doubt it.

I have a chinese name so living in Canada my whole life I’ve never met anyone with the same name. I’ve heard that it’s a very common/typical girl name in China though. No one can pronounce it so I use an English preferred name to make everyone’s life easier

That’s actually my dad’s legal name aha. So he doesn’t even need to use a preferred English name. Besides him, I don’t know anyone named Kai though!

Woah the name Raven is so cool! My name is pretty common -- Hannah. But I still like it since it was my mother's maiden name.

No.

My parents decided to try and make it unique by hyphenating two names and using alternate spellings for both parts. I dislike it so I stopped using the name they gave me a decade ago. I want to legally change my name but my mother gets upset whenever I bring up the idea.

Now that I'm a little older i've met a few more people with my name. However, when I was growing up no one had it at all. Its made up out of my parents names

Richard + Julie Anne = Rianne

I'd rather not give out my RL name bc I hate it a lot but yeah apparently "rare" enough for people to mispronounce/misspell it (no my legal is not sunny/sheila i just use em online bc i hate my real one)

namiko seems pretty rare. i don't see many japanese people with the name either so its even more rare here in the UK.

Your comment has me shooketh.

When I was in high school, there was an underclassman who had the same name as me. There was a student art show in the auditorium and my teacher took our class to go see it. She thought the underclassman’s display was my work at first lol. ; u ;
