I used to restart all the time with the previous animal crossing games. New Leaf is the first Animal Crossing game I've never wanted to reset; I've had this town for over a year now and I plan on keeping it for a very long time! I've been playing it semi-actively for mostly that entire time too, save for a couple months in autumn.
I could never throw all my villagers, my progress, my catalog, my badges, my town layout, my collections, down the drain... I just couldn't do it. I've had so much fun and spent so much time collecting things and accumulating things, I wouldn't want them to go away. I also really like how old my town is. Seeing the old dates when I sit by the plaza tree feels very rewarding to me.
I never know what advice to give to people who are questioning whether or not to reset. I want to say that you should reset until you are so in love with your town that you could never possibly give it up, but I don't think that's how it works. I think maybe some people will always have the urge to reset and start over. I never regretted starting over with my old animal crossing towns because I didn't really put a lot of work into them. I was happy with those towns, but I wasn't proud, and I didn't have any plans. But I am very proud of my New Leaf town and I have many long-term plans for it.
