I try to make my island have the same year-long design independent of seasons. For example, I won’t change out bushes when they don’t bloom. Does anyone else do this?

I mostly stick to the same design! BUT the bushes that are in front of my resident services are always the seasonal ones, I do switch them out. I also planted some trees where I think they would look good during Sakura Season.

Intended to be permanent. I know I won't stay invested enough in the design aspect of the game to change it seasonally.

Nope. But I do have an idea that I want to use whenever I get the right items for it.

I’m intending to rotate out certain items, like removing surfboards during the fall and winter, and put up winter decorations once the snow falls. I also have a boardwalk with a stand that will “sell” different items seasonally. Right now it’s a coconut juice stand, but will change to warm clothing and hot cocoa next fall :)

I plan on having at least one seasonal area that I can change as much as I want. I do plan on switching out the bushes and a few decorations.

In New Leaf I designed my town for cherry blossom season and saved it as a dream address during this time. In this game NH, I am creating a tropical island and hope to "save" it (or take pictures if the dream suite never comes back) during the summer.

I wanted to do both so I have a little "event plaza" which I change up every season. Right now it has a lot of beach items, palm trees and hydrangeas. The rest of my island isn't seasonal, but it's nice to have a small space to "celebrate" all the seasons.

I'm making a story based town so I might have to temporarily get rid of the plaza when dream suite comes out. We shall see.

I change my bushes to ensure that they're in bloom. I don't have too many to change and bushes don't change that frequently, so it's not too hard. It's just a matter of finding Leif and buying the right ones.

Mine’s intended to be semi-permanent. I don’t plan to change it all every season, but I fully expect to make major and minor changes as time goes on and whenever the mood strikes.

I think it would be fun to change it up a bit seasonally! My town is totoro themed (lush magical forest), so I don't have a lot of flowers that will be displayed, but I do plan on adding cute little decorations depending on the season! In october, I want to try to get some orange, purple, and black flowers or other plants availible in the areas where I will be using flowers, and maybe some cute little halloween decorations sprawled around! In winter, I would try to make it feel more cozy somehow! I think it would be a fun activitiy to re-decorate seasonally (not change the whole layout, though)! It would also give me more to do, if I am ever bored :)!

I plan to keep it the same year-round more or less. I have bushes in different areas of my island for where I thought they'd look/fit in best when in bloom. Holly bushes and tea-olives are in my forest and countryside, azaleas and hydrangeas around my downtown and neighborhood, hibiscus in the tropical neighborhood, camellias around my shopping center though I might change that a bit now that I know what the camellias look like at the time of year they bloom thanks to SH players' screenshots. If I do start to use custom patterns, I hope to get ones that I don't have to change out with the season. I've cut down a lot of my hardwood trees - sakura season was kinda fun but I don't really care enough about it to make it a priority on my island.

No, not really. BUT I'm thinking of my island design as "this is what I want... for now". I'm open to changing most things whenever I come up with a design I like better, or if a new villager moves in and I want to do something special for their home. But I don't know if seasons will come into play... unless something I've done in spring/summer ends up looking terrible in fall/winter 😝

I also don't change out bushes- instead, I place bushes where they'll look nice when they're in bloom. Like, my forest has holly bushes. My haunted house has olive bushes outside of it. My beach has hibiscus bushes (which will be in season soon!). Etc. I'd consider changing some of them out, I'd love to at least change the ones when you first enter the island, but until they give us the option to store plants I can't be bothered.
(seriously, WHY can't we store plants and DIY recipes? 😠)

The general layout and general items stay the same. But some decor, especially seaonals, will definitely change. For example, the tanabata bamboo grass will stay for the whole summer. Then I will replace it with mushroom stuff by autumn.

Bushes and flowers are year round, because I've set them to designate different areas on the island.

I have a surf shop near my dock, and once summer is over, I'll take things in and put a "closed for the season" sign up. Something similar will go at the shark spotting station.

I'll probably put out some seasonal items, but I don't plan to go nuts about it.

When snow came in the tiki bar and pool stopped making sense... So I adapted that. I took out some maple leaf stuff as well. But the rest is pretty much the same

My paths have a custom design border of over grown green grass, so it's not gonna work in the fall & winter. I've seen my path in fall and it looks terrible.
