Hi all! Do you design your homes for specific purposes? Do you take Lyle's theme challenges and bust his chops, trying to get a high score? Do you painstakingly design your houses to wow dream address visitors? Or do you just not care about any of that and throw together whatever speaks to you?
I streetpass anywhere from 10-20 people a week. For a long time, my mayor's house has been geared up for streetpasses (if I get my hands on rare(ish) stuff, like the zodiac furniture or orderable DLC, I'll load it into my house so others can buy it). I was also set to a theme challenge and was being a showoff with my high HHA score. It got to the point that I couldn't bear to change my house, even though it wasn't really what I would have chosen.
Someone recently reviewed my dream town and commented that a couple of the houses just seemed like random collections of stuff, which lit a fire under me and now I'm finally working on my houses to make them more DA-worthy (and more in line with what I'd actually like in my house--though I'll miss K.K. Flamenco with the 4 timpanoids!).
So what about you? Does anything in particular motivate you when you're designing your home?
Two of my chara houses are built to reflect the BBC Sherlock series: Lucille lives in a replica of 221B Baker St., and Jim lives in a fairytale house that represents the most beautifully written episode in the series, the Reichenbach Fall. Shay the Pattern Mule's house is just a house that has sets I personally want to use, because I only have one cart.
Streetpassers get 221B Baker St. I hope someone who receives it gets the design...
I think I differ from most people on the forums in that I'm not going for a dream town that is meant to impress others. I'm just making a town/house that I like and would like to live in. I have a lot more fun that way. The game becomes my little world as opposed to some kind of competition of who can lay the straightest, most parallel paths and breed the most hybrids.
That being said, anyone who has the courtesy to put out rare items for street passing is an angel. I live in the middle of nowhere and never streepass, but the 4 or so times I have it's been like Joey from Coolville with a house full of fortune cookie items.
I usually have a bit of a theme going on, but I never pick up streetpasses so I don't really get a chance to even consider modeling my house for streetpass people. Maybe once school starts back up I'll bring my 3DS more often and pick some up, and I'll hopefully put in some good ol' rare stuff for others to grab~
I just aim to make a house and town that I would enjoy. That in itself is a huge task haha.
I would like to do a sort of theme town someday but I'd rather do that on another cartridge.
That way I could have both my relaxed town and a sort of project town.
Both of those would still be for my enjoyment over anyone else's though heh.
I picked the second choice because I'm basing my town and house on Dragon Age: Inquisition ~ rooms, medieval look, and such; but, it's not for streetpass purposes or the Dream Suite. It's for my character to live in ^.^ and for me to show how much of a fan girl I am .
Well, I don't streetpass anybody so that's out. I'm thinking of doing themed houses (Like furniture sets) only to get high HHA score and the obvious. So the final answer is putting in whatever fits perfectly like a real house. Not just cramming your house with rares you're probably never going to use.
I've had themes in mind for rooms ever since I got the game, and even then, some of the themes have gone in completely unexpected ways or even scrapped. I just decorate my house the way I want... But that normally ends up including a ton of rare items anyways (Zodiac, Monthly DLC, Pics, Custom Rococo Set). It's what I like though, and I think my house looks good.
I don't really streetpass either and I've actually given up on carrying my 3DS around cos there was no point.
I have a lose theme and my mayor's house is a collection of a few sets and things I like. I will change it around because I have rooms planned in my head but I'm working on my town now and I will probably need to hit the re-tail forum in search of items when I decide to work on my house.
My second character's main room will be a noodle bar type of place with a japanese garden at the back and a traditionnal playroom and a modern playroom on either side.
At the moment, I'm just doing my best to get that 150000 HHA score! After that, I'm not too sure. I'll probably end up designing a home that looks a little like the one I'm living in at the moment.
I definitely like to put together a theme/series, and make the room look really nice. But I do it for myself, and to accomplish something, not to impress others in the Dream Suite. As for streetpasses, I don't have any in my new town. I didn't have much in my old one either, the area I live in doesn't have many people playing New Leaf I guess.
My mayor's house is designed for maximum points in the HHA theme challenge. Its full fairytale theme, and I don't intend to change it. My second character has a house with normal rooms, kitchen, dining room, etc and lots of food items. Both are different but still really well done. I couldn't pick a favourite.
I design my Mayor's house how I want to, I never care what the HHA thinks. I do spend a lot of time designing the rooms though, but it's for nobody elses benefit except my own. Although, if dream visitors/streetpassers/town visitors like them too, that's a real bonus! ^_^
