Soo, the Chinese festival called Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋節) or Moon Festival (八月節) is coming up, which means delicious moon cakes (月饼) will be out in stores, some already out now *^* .
The most popular moon cakes are Hong Kong style. Golden brown with pretty designs, a paste inside (like lotus or meng bean), and an egg or two in the center, to represent the moon. It usually has a sweet flavor, is moist, and the egg is dried and salty. Other fillings can be nuts and dried fruit. (I dislike this flavor type)
The festival has different reasons for celebrating, many different reasons.
Generically, its association with the full moon, as well as the traditions of moon worship and moon gazing.
-Its held in early September or October. This year it is September 8th.
If you have a market that sells these delicious cakes, definitely try it. My personal favorites are the piggie shaped ones (no egg inside).
