Do yellow mums have a purpose I don't know about?

Now that I've FINALLY gotten mum seeds, I've been looking over YT videos on hybrids and it seems that there aren't a use for yellow mums, (other than aesthetics of course!) is there? Did I miss something?

Yellow seed mums can be bred with red seed mums to make "special" yellow mums which have a small chance of producing green mums, or "special" purple mums which have an even greater chance of producing green mums.

I believe that yellow mums + red mums = special yellow. Special yellow + special yellow will get you a special purple, and special purple + special purple has a chance of breeding green mums.

Regarding the Green Mums, I just wanted to add that a lot of the guides that don't mention Yellow Mums are actually outdated/incorrect. Their "mistake" is using Purple Mums found on the Mystery Island Tours to breed Green Mums, and then assuming that all Purple Mums can make Green Mums. So people end up breeding White x White to get Purple Mums that won't ever make Green Mums. The Purple Mums found on the Mystery Island Tours have a specific genotype that lets them breed Green Mums.

More accurate hybrid guides can be found here!

Edit: Oh yeah. The spreadsheet is often down because too many people are accessing it, I think. Here's a link to a simple accurate guide. But the spreadsheet has a lot of links that go into detail if you want to read it.

Confirming what's been said above. Breed a seed yellow with a seed red to get a special yellow. Breed two special yellows to get another yellow, a special purple, or a green. Breed two special purples to get green. Once you've got green, I'd recommend cloning as opposed to breeding.

It can be used for some diys like the wreath as well, but you also need red and white mums.

I'll tell you this.

I'm not sure I've seen a more beautiful flower combination than yellow mums and pink mums together!

I made a small flower bed around the tree nearest my house using yellow and pink mums and I just can't stop looking at it. It's pastel heaven.

I think the mums in general are all beautiful! At first I thought they were hideous (they're my native flower), but once I saw the green mums my opinion started to change, and while my overall favorite is probably still hyacinth, I've grown to really love them!

Wow. Your favorite is the hyacinth?

Well, if I were pressed to pick one I would go with hyacinths (other than red hyacinths which, especially together with yellow, are nauseating to look at), but I love the green/pink/yellow mums, and purple/yellow/red pansies as well.

Not a big fan of windflowers, and the rest are alright. :)

Man my airport is orange so I decided to lean into it and make this all orange flower garden right in front of it ok? So natrually I had to grow some orange hyacinths and they are so ugly! Not even close to orange. More like brown.

So I actually changed the pattern which should have called for 4 of each to just 2 of the hyacinths so I didn't have to look at them so much lol.

I think my favorite flowers right now are Pink Cosmos and the yellow and pink mums.

Mine is orange as well! I really like the look of the orange hyacinths on the cliffside and amongst a dense forest together with overgrown weeds, but I'm going for a certain mediterranean aesthetic that I find them useful for. :)

BTW, orange is my least favorite color in general. TnT

Anyways, sorry for derailing this thread!

Mums are my native flower and yellow ones are basically useless LOL I've never seen them used for anything but the mum cushion and some recipes, i dont know if theyre used in breeding but I never needed them to get any purple mums nor did they sprout any purple mums ever when I tried to breed them

I'm going to try the yellow and pink together. I have plenty of both! LOL

Had you read the first couple posts in the thread, you'd have your answer as to the purpose of yellow mums. By themselves or next to each other, useless. Bred with a red to make a special yellow, put next to another special yellow, and you get another yellow, green, or special purple. Put two special purple next to each other, and you get green.

Also, I think pink tulips are my favorite. It's just a wonderful shade of pink, pretty much magenta.

Are the "special" colors a real thing? Because I had seen people claiming there were "special" hybrid red roses that would make black roses, but I found seed red roses made black roses and the hybrid red roses made more reds (or even white)
I was able to get purple mums from a hybrid island and thus they produced loads of green mums!
Is there an accurate hybrid guide out there yet? LOL

The special colors are indeed a real thing. I've bred over 50 green mums thanks to successfully breeding special yellows and special purples.

I would recommend reading through this great resource: https://docs.google.com/document/d/...7NXhAm4fOpNvCs/preview#heading=h.x8xd412mj4eg
