They will show up in redds eventually, but trading for them is the fastest. Nooks will only ever have one color. I think villagers, balloons, and trees might give different colors?
I think you can find different variations of the furniture from balloons and villagers! It’s rare but can happen. Nintendo unfortunately wanted people to buy switch online to make them want to trade (Trading is much easier but with patience you can get other variations!) i got the yellow cute set in my stores and from balloons I got a red cute stereo and a blue cute chair! Hope this helps
Outdoor items (The nook mile ticket ones, teacup ride etc) as far as I know can only be gotten by trading which is really annoying
I agree that this is very frustrating! It’s like it’s impossible to play this game and get everything out of it without doing online trading. While I do think online trading can be fun and it’s cool to play with other people, I don’t think it should basically be a requirement to get the other fruits and item variations.
I have seen different colored furniture items in Nook's Cranny bunches of times. Though some seem harder to get a different color, pretty sure its just bad luck.
But as others said, Redd, trees, balloons and villagers have a better chance sometimes to give you a variant.
Nook Miles items are colored locked to your Airport, so trade is needed.
Again, looks like Nintendo wanted to push people to get online and promote a trading, close community.
I agree with this as well! It would be nice to just be able to customize all furniture items. Sometimes I just dump a bunch of furniture in my pockets and visit my workbench to see what is customizable. Not much unfortunately but sometimes I’m pleasantly surprised on what is customizable
